Hey guys, I've got a '97 Z.. Redoing my audio setup.. Just need opinions and if someone could explain tuning a box..
-Two or four Audiobahn AWIS12P IMMORTAL subs. If you don't know these subs are rated at 2250RMS a piece. I'm not sure what I want to do, depends on what I decide to do with the new Z
-Audiobahn A2300HCT 2 Channel amp..One per sub. Each amp is rated 2400 RMS a piece.
-I'm looking into a 20+ farad cap.(depends what I can find).
-Yellow top Ultima battery.
-I can't remember the part # for the head unit, but it's a VERY nice audiobahn head unit..
-Audiobahn 6x9's 200 RMS a piece I THINK.
-Audiobahn 6.5 component system.
-Audiobahn 4 1/2 for the doors
-Audiobahn tweeters
-Some sort of Audiobahn amp for the speakers. I plan on running an amp(s) on everything BUT the tweeters.
-I was given a phoenix gold EQ..any idea on the quality of this brand?
-Sometime whenever I can afford it I'm going to get an Audiobahn in-dash screen for movies, too.
Every experience I've had with Audiobahn has been a good one, plus I get a pretty good deal on them, so just like everyone else, I have my preferences too
Now I know a LITTLE about audio equip. but any kind of advice you can give me I would appreciate.
You may say I'm going overboard on the sub setup, but I want it to be outrageous..
Anyway, Like I said, thanks for any help.

I guess if you like audiobahn, that doesn't sound bad. I personally don't know anything about those models, so i'm not going to say anything either way.
I do have two things to say though. With that much power, you're going to need a serious battery, something bigger than an optima, and you might even need more than one, along with a HO alternator. Check out ohiogen.com for a H.O. alternator. Other than that, i'd be looking for a battery, something maybe by SVR (svrbatteries.com) or kinetik (kinetikaudio.com). Without a huge battery you're system will be cutting out all the time.
The other thing, if you're going to have components, i believe you'll amp the whole component set, i don't think you can exclude the tweeters. The components should come with a cross over, so you'll run from the amp to the cross over, and then to the tweeter and mid, so everything will be amped. Otherwise it'd sound funny.
Hope that helps.
Audiobahn makes a 3 way component system (6 1/2, 4 inch and a tweeter), that might help some. as for subs, you plan on having them sealed or ported? The immortals like a large box, unless you plan on doing a back seat delete. You're going to need a beefy alternator, and multiple batteries if you want to do this.

Yeah I knew about the component systems, thanks. I just didn't think it was neccesary to put a lot of wattage to them. I figured I would have to run the larger amp and possibly another battery.
I know the IMMORTALs like large (ported from what I hear)boxes.. somewhere around 3 cu/ft per sub? Something like that.. I have the paper around here.. I am probably going to do a rear seat delete because I also want to run my air ride in the trunk somewhere.. I'm running out of room! lol
With all the talk of all these extra batteries.. I think I might just stick to two 15". Kinda sucks cuz I wanted it to be crazy.
Thanks for the help guys, any more suggestions?
Batteries aren't huge, and if you delete the rear seat's you have lots of rooms (put the speakers in a wall). You should have plenty of room to put your air ride and 2, maybe 3 (not maybe 3 because of room, but maybe three because you might be able to get away with 2) batteries.
You're gonna need to do a few things. First you'll need another battery in the trunk (possibly 1 for each sub amp), a GOOD quality battery isolator (DO NOT skimp on this!), and a quality high-output alternator. I personally think that a 20 farad cap is needless overkill if you only go with 2 amps/5000wrms. The general rule is something like 1 farad for every 1000 watts rms. If you can get a good deal on a huge cap, go for it, but I think it's overkill unless you decide to run 4 of those amps.
Phoenix Gold makes quality audio goodies. Rather overpriced and overrated IMO, but you can do far worse.
15s aren't too overboard, and a 6-7cu.ft box would fit in your trunk if you didn't have the airride. Box tuning depends on several things, including the sub's specs, box (internal) volume and port tuning. You'll need an expert to explain all the variables in designing SPL systems (especially ones that involve walls). Good luck and let us know how things work out.
