newbie! stereo stuff

Ok. Got some questions. I read all of the posts but i'm still confused about some things. I don't want to replace my head unit or anything. I pretty much like my stock system but I want it to sound a little better. I basically want to get a better amp than the monsoon, and possibly later replace the speakers. Basically just wanted to know what i would need to put in a different amp, and how to connect it. "have no clue". Also would like to know- I currently just have the monsoon system, I want to put in a new monsoon deck that is mp3 compatible. will I need to disconnect the air bags etc to put that in.. any help would be appreciated. thank you

No on the air bags, and i'd have to say, the quickest way to get better sound is to get a new head unit. Just installing a new head unit will give you a lot better sound (assuming you get a decent HU). It also gives you the ability to put amplifiers and such in, and use the line level (much better) outputs of the HU into the amps.

Probably not what you wanted to hear, but it's the best thing to do.

By the way, you can get a good new HU for ~200 from ebay, and you can install it your self, even if you don't think you can. It's really easy.

Like I said. pretty happy with what I have. just want to make it a little better. I'm not looking for the best. I red the posts and I really don't want to go through dismantling everything like the airbags, and, may sound stupid but I like my chimes and i like to be able to adjust the volume on them. I know it's stupid but this is what I want. Read something about the power source going to the amp is different for the monsoon. and i would need an adapter to power a different amp. if so what will I need. etc also plan ongetting better speakers and possibly mounting tweeters in door. I think it would sound just fine! =) thanks in advance

I think it's in the sticky'd thread at the top of this forum, but it's whenever they switched the HVAC with the HU position, either 00, 01, or 02, i forget.

That being said, they also make wiring harnesses that keep the speaker that does the chimes, so you can still have them. It's going to be a LOT more complex keeping the stock stereo than just getting a new HU. Also, if you want a HU that plays MP3's, you're going to pay a LOT more for a stock type HU than you would for an aftermarket one that play's MP3's.

However, if you still want to keep your stock HU, i finally found the answer.

The JL audio clean sweep. I don't know if it's out yet (anyone know?) but it'll make a stock HU sound like an aftermarket. That'll get you set up. If you want to look at it.
