Saw that at Canadian Tire, They call it rubberized asphalt coating, and is said to dampen noise, insulate and all. Anybody ever tried that in place of "real" sound deadener? At 5$ a can, it's hella cheaper!!
Thanks,
G
Hey GBro,
Yea, I have tried it and it works nice! I tried it under my fender wells and it's pretty noticeable on the highway. Just make sure what you're tryin to apply on is nice and clean.
A buddy of mine has it applied in thick coats and layered between plastic "garbage bag" layers and he has put them inside the door panels. I must say, it's pretty damn quiet compared to mine and makes the stereo sound allot better.
Give it a try!
D.
It works, kinda, but not as good as Dynamat or some other similar material.

what i did was went to a local auto zone and got rubberized undercoating and it worked amazing i put three coats on and it is amazing the difference it made in the system let alone going done the highway for the trunk lid i squirted expanding foam in the channels of the underside of the trunk just a little this @!#$ swells unreal lol just enough to make it solid then i put like 4 strips of accumat sound deadener on it and that took care of all the rattles i had in the trunk all together there are simple way to sound deaden just have to try it

you got a pic of your trunk and the rest of your deading process. im interested in doing this
i have a can of it im going to try on the trunk roof because im sick and tired of each year during the summer the dynamat peels off cause its too hot

how are you guys doing this just applying it straight to the surface or what???
Watch out! This stuff is meant to stay stickly for a looooooong time! If you apply it to something that you'll keep on touching then get ready for a mess! It's decent but once again not as good as Dynamat.
Jay
Alright, I did give it a try. The results:
I first bega under the hood. I removed the hoodliner and sprayed it until it was soaked, then I speayed the firewall, shock tower and a little here and there by accident
The diference is truly unbelieveable. Never tried dynamat, but geez., you dont hear anymore the timing chain or valve ticking, let alone the engine! The AC compressor can barely be heard now also.
So, I decided to proceed with the rest of the car. I just finished the trunk, still drying now, and I will write about the results tomorrow. I will strip down the interior carpet and seats and will give a good coat there too during the weekend. The only drawbacks are the drying time and the paint thinner smell. Otherwise the restults simply blew me away! And again, at 5$ a can, it's unbeatable.
G
are you applying it straight to the pieces or what?
I'll be sprayin' the inside of my trunk lid w/ the stuff this weekend. I'm tired of the damn vibrations from my 12" BP. Metal body + 30Hz oscillations = Tons of annoying noise. I'll have to get a vid/sound clip of the noise b4 I spray the rubber. Hell, I may even spray under-body to reduce exhaust noise heh.

If you apply it right, it works just as well as anything else out there.

The system has arrived.

Amanda here is the pics sorry for the delay this is the starting of it after the first coat i had more to cover but i started on the biggest area first
here is another after 2 coats and just for a safe measure i let it dry for a day the thicker the coat the more it will deaden it (all the wiring is from my strobe lights i didn't want to have to take them all out so i just draped them up out of the way lol)
but unfortunately i don't have any yet of the interior
Rodimus Prime wrote:i have a can of it im going to try on the trunk roof because im sick and tired of each year during the summer the dynamat peels off cause its too hot
i'm not trying to state the obvious but i'm gonna try to help ya a little
rattling in the trunk lid is from the channels on the inside of the trunk lid and sheet metal on the out side hit each other from the vibrations
so all u have to do is figure out how to make them solid but still flexible enough to move a little that is why i used expanding foam in mine what it does is when you squirt it in the channel it will begin to expand and it will fill the channel solid well when it hardens it makes the channel solid and the foam itself absorbs the vibrations instead of the metal...
if you want to go this route the can of expanding foam has a 6 inch straw nozzle on it slip it all the way into one of the holes and spray just a small amount because this stuff will over swell if you add too much and it will ooze out of the hole then you have a real mess then just go from hole to hole
if you do it the way i just said you wont be able to see anything under the trunk and it will make a major improvement it looks clean... make sure to wear rubber gloves because if this stuff gets on your skin it won't come off till it wears off lmao i know from experience
and one last note i used stuff called "Great Stuff expanding foam" i got it from wal-mart for 3 bucks lol
hope that can help you a little bit
be carefull with the expanding foam...it would suck if you couldn't shut your trunk anymore because it was distorted, lol.

What is the actual name of this stuff? i can't find it on the Canadiantire website. Do you have a product number?
ryan you can get it at wal-mart too in the auto section it is a red checkered can and says rubberised undercoating and auto zone has the same stuff sorry i cant help more ill try to see if i can get some info to help ya more

Obviously you haven't dealt with this stuff in this manner it doesn't expand enough to warp the metal it isn't that strong... back when i was doing sound competitions i used this stuff when deadening a lot of cars and have never once had that happen

does dynamat stick alright to this rubberized coating? (not the foam). I was thinking first spraying this stuff down first, and then covering with dynamat. What do u think?
Ryan that is what i did.... i covered everything then cut strips to put on the parts that i thought needed the extra and just scattered the strips i think i ended up using 6 square foot of it and 2 and a half was used on the trunk lid the expanding foam deadened the trunk lid its just i have a flip flop trunk so i needed something i could cut and shape around the hinges and latches but i didn't use dynomat i used some stuff called accumat and this stuff is super sticky and once it is on its a bitch to get off after i done all this i don't have any rattles at all because of the system and it made everything sound so much better now i am working on taking care of the rest of the road noise and finishing the interior and firewall hope this helps if you have any other questions ill be more then happy to help
wysiwyg , to be honest man i would love to see it and the only reason i see that might have caused it is they put too much in or something thats odd... never seen it happen though but what i am talking about is just spots here and there not filling the channels completely

i have 100 square feet of this stuff called fatmat (like dynamat), but you're saying that it should stick fine to the rubberized asphalt?
ryan yes it should stick fine i have had no issues at all when that stuff dries it has like a rubber surface so it grips good and with the adhesive on the other it sticks great
