12" L7 Kicker Solobarics in the trunk?
Thursday, August 18, 2005 9:02 PM
Does anyone else have L7 12s in the trunk of a Cav or even better a 2nd Gen Cav? I have mine in a ported box tuned to 38 Hz with a Kicker KX1200.1 mono amp ( 1200 watts ) ,it fires toward the trunk, it hits about a 148 Db with every thing set to where it sounds best. Has anyone else tried this set up?

No pics yet but will have them soon. Its only tight getting into the actual opening of the trunk, after its in I have about 2" on each end and about 5" on top. I am seriously considering doing either 2 or 4 more in a wall with 1 or 2 more amps. That should sound wicked 4 or 6 12" L7s in a wall, 2400 watts on 4 or 3600 watts on 6.

try putting the box in through the back seat, u might have to bend a metal piece to get in there, thats what we had to do to my box to get it in..

Wait....am I reading this wrong or are you saying that the W7 is more of an SPL sub and the L7 is more of an all around sub?

I have had 2 of them, blew both of them with a jl 500/1, I should have kept my 12w7.

I'll just say this, you must have either had a bad box, or you were clipping the hell out of the amp, because I've run well over 1500 watts a sub to those things for daily and have had no problems.

Seeing as you were only running a 500/1 I'd venture to say you were clipping the amp. Not the subs fault there.

First You dont hit 148 with two 12s and 1200 watts. And dont give me that they are square and have more cone area crap.

Second if the w7 is a spl sub then why in the hell isnt anyone running it to compete with. And not your local crack dealer whos got four of em in his caprice. Im talking the big dogs.

Third if you've heard about all of em then I venture to take a stab and say that you have not heard anywhere near all of em. RE XXX adire brahma IDMAX are just some of the subs that are acoustically better and are gonna knock your head off in the volume department. Mainstream brands arent everything.

The L7 is not a bad woofer by any stretch but there are better woofers out there.

OK GOD then bring it and prove it. I never said it was "the best" but I do believe that for a daily system you cant beat them. Yes all the hand made subs are better acousticlly and spl wise but when it comes to everyday use how long do they last running hard? Oh and by the way if you are calling me a liar about my spl then come prove me wrong with all your "better" stuff. Oh and thats why all those subs make the records and everybody has them right? Who wants to spend 1K for a 12 and it last 2 months? As I said before just bring it to me and prove it!

I saw once somewhere kicker made an 18" square sub that was 10,000 watts (peak of course) Whether or not where I saw this was full of BS or not, I have no idea. www.realmofexcursion.com in the competition section for videos, I noticed alot of the really loud systems use kickers.

But why are we all fighting about which subs are better than others? in the proper enclosure, 10" subs would make you hurl. Personally, anyone who needs something beyond that either has a very strong stomach, gets a kick out of puking their guts out... or just plain wants a stereo system that'll make their car crack the pavement.

Then you've got a lot to learn.

I have 2 15" XXX's that had 2000 watts a peice on them daily for a little over 2 years and are still as fresh as they were new.

If you really are hitting what you say you are, why not just show us some hard facts? Where is your Db Drag page?

Who would spend 1k on a 12" no matter how long it lasts? I barely spent 1k on my daily system and I have a feeling it would knock your head off.

As for going down to wherever the fu(k you live and showing you; why the @!#$ would we waste our time to show you? Sorry, I have better things to do.

Calvin, Kicker does make that sub. Solo-X 18". Pretty good sub for what it's made for. Does what it needs to do and no more.

As for making a 10" sub make you puke your guts out, I'd love to see that in a daily system. I've sat in cars that do over 160 on the TL at 40hz and haven't puked. I've sat in cars that do 160+ on the TL at 55hz and haven't puked. Basically what I'm saying, either I have an iron stomach; which isn't true by any means; or it's hard to make someone puke. Yes, some people will, but people that know what to expect, not going to happen.

lol yeah... mind you my system makes me a bit woozy, by no means will anyone puke (unless they're drunk... and then that's not really their fault). But yeah, it really all depends on the person. my system is just good for a massage and if you like smelling burnt fuses from the amp (yes, I know thats a very bad thing).

But, in answer to the question of the thread, no I havent heard kickers in an actual car trunk, however at Visions in Regina, a guy was demoing the 15" kicker sub with the 500 watt amp and he had the whole wall vibrating. My friend had the guts to tell the dealer that he wasn't impressed (he had just got new home speakers for his stereo that were pretty good) so the dealer, naturally, puts it on the 1200w amp and the entire store was rumbling. My friend once again says "It's pretty good, but I'm still not impressed" so the dealer just gave up... haha

The idiots at the Regina Visions would be better at selling fruit than helping you design a high-end car stereo.

Ok Cavi in KC go blow your dog with all your bs. If you are so much better than the rest of us then why even conversate with people you fell are lesser than you? If all you are looking to do is dog others out then piss on ya. I know what my system does and thats all I need to know period.

Do you feel better now?

What, we have to prove things to you, but you don't have to prove them to us? Kind of a double standard, don't you think?

PS. Where was the BS in my post?
PSS. Where did I say I was better then you?

Ok smart ass I live in the area where the hurrican just came though so everyone has problems to deal before we worry about get a show together. Oh and btw what is it you have for a grand that will "knock my head off"? Must be second hand cause a 2000 watt amp of any brand is about a grand? Oh but thats right you know all! IF you really work in an audio shop then you should know that every system works different in different cars. I had my car metered using a hand held db meter, yes I know they are not that acurate but they are fairly close, at that time it hit a 147.9 db. As soon as there is a sanctioned show nearby I will go and have it metered there. Util then get off my back and STFU!
