I recently got a really good deal on a MTX 6500d. Im wanting two woofers that are going to have some punch to them, but still maintain decent sound quality. Any suggestion on which woffers to look at?

pair of jl audio W0 10's or kicker comp 10's shoudl do nicly
I was thinking 1 12" MTX Thunder8500. At least the more I read about it. I know i stated that I would like 2 subs, but im sure that would be loud enough.
2 10" kicker comps would hit harder and be cheaper
I highly doubt the comps would hit harder.
yea but if you compar surface area and travel they should
2 Type R 10's or even 2 Type S 10's will do you and SOUND BETTER then a w0 or kicker comp, mtx thunder etc. Not to mention not set you back that far money wise.
www.ikesound.com They have 10' Type R's on for 100 $ and Type S's on for oven less. Alpine still to this day makes "some" of the best subwoofers period. I also find kickers low end gear lacks. MTX welll.... Not a fan. Jl holds it own but will not stack up quite as well vs a Type S sub let alone a Type R.
My Cav
I give up...
i'm buying a VW those people love trees, so they should love eachother too... "Andy"
only problem with the type R is that they need 500 watts and the amp only puts out 500 where you could get a pair of kicker comp 15's at 250 watts a peice and only about 75 bucks a peice
This amp will put out at least 700wrms(I've never seen one list less than 714.. My old 6500d did 793w at 14.4v at 2ohms.. If MTX amps are anything, they're underrated.
They also rate that "500 watts" at 12.5v...
That was even before I ran it at 1ohm.. don't know what it did after that, but I figure at least 900...
Anyways, what kind of music do you listen to? What all subs have you heard? Did you like/hate any specific size? Heard ported boxes before? You know, @!#$ like that.. People can sit here and list all kinds of @!#$..
Spending limit?
You'll want to answer all these questions, before anyone can say "get this sub, blah blah.." The answers will dictate what's in your price range, how much space you'll need if you want two 12's, one 15 etc....

"If life throws you a curve, pop the clutch and drift it!"
I don't really have a limit, but I want it to be within reason. Nothing more than $500 for the sub. That rules out the JL w7, RE XXX etc. etc.
I have previously owned (In Order)...
2 10" Dual woofers in a Dual Bandpass box (Bestbuy, christmas gift from my parents, I laughed and gave them to my brother)
2 10" Kicker Solobaric L5s in a Ported box tuned to roughly 28hz, powered by a Kicker K600.1 (System was nice yes, but insanly loud! Unsealed the front windshield)
2 10" JL Audio W3v2s in H.O Ported box with a cheap walmart 300 watt amp. (Loved these subs, Had to sell them in order to make payments that I owed on loans and other debts.)
1 10" Infinity Kappa Perfect 10.1D In a Fiberglass sealed box (Roughly 1.3 Cu Ft) Sounded nice, but I want more bump. Put this woofer in a ported box, still wasn't enough.. just made the woofer "slur" a little more.
Looking for something nice that will bump hard, but still sound nice. Hard as in loud, but not loud like the L5s. If that makes sense. Also the amp is rated at 752rms at 2ohms with a 14.4v input. Should i be looking for 2 10/12" subs with a 4 ohm so when wired up its a 2 ohm load? Or what would you suggest.
hard and sound good, punchy yet low, for all around musical sound, 2 10s sealed with plenty of power is ALWAYS a good choice, kicker comps might be ok, im definately a man that lives by JL and Alpine tho, and yeah, for the money, and the sound quality, getting a pair of 10 inch Alpine Type-Rs would be what u would want...its what im switching to soon, gettin rid of my ported single 12 inch JL, finishing up the system with the components and what not up front, then getting the 10inch type Rs. i know ill be happy, i do a lot and have heard a lot of stereos, and i highly recomend this setup.
On the other hand....you have other fingers.

Sweet, I have heard everybody rave about Darkstars setup and I have heard some personally. I will have to look into it.

Yes Darkstars setup is very nice. I got to hear it first hand when he came up to a meet in WI. Even considered buying it when he tried selling it. Didn't have $600 to spare though.

I say go with 2 RE audio SE10's, or one SX10. They're not as expensive as XXX's (which still don't cost that much realtive to other subs) but they'll be able to do everything you want. I have an older model (HC's) and they POUND, but also have amazing response, and are a great daily driver sub. The SE's or an SX will take 500+ watts all day long, and i doubt you'll regret it.
It's worth a call to RE anway, (702) 896 4823, sometimes their distributors can give you deals, and even if they can't, they're awesome to talk to.
Blackplague wrote:they need 500 watts
A power rating means your woofer won't reach full potential unless the woofer gets 500w, and you'll be running the risk of damage if you surpass that rating.
If a subwoofer
needed recommended wattage, they would become damaged/not operate/whatevermythiscirculatingthisweek when someone turned down the volume or *gasp* turned the stereo off.
There is nothing wrong with underpowering a subwoofer. I've been doing it for years (but no longer) It's when one tries to push an amplifier beyond the amplifier's limits to get the most out of the woofer where one runs into trouble.
To chime in on the original subject: I can't recommend anythng from Alpine. Alpine's aren't bad, they just sound like a wet fart in the MFR-recommended sealed enclosures. (They're marketing to 16 year olds, I can't fault them, it's where the money is.)
Put them in a box twice that size and they sound great.

Is there any dealers of RE other than contacting RE themselves? Any distributors that you know of online or anything? The SEs look like a good buy.
As far as i know there aren't any online dealers (???). I think that's partly because they don't mark their stuff up as much as some other manufacturers, so people can't re-sell their stuff for much (any?) cheaper than they can sell it from the factory. I'd give them a call and ask for prices, everyone there is really nice.
They may also forward you to a local distributor, which is how i got my 2 HC 12's (1000 watts RMS) for $250.
I just emailed their sales department and explained I was interested in pricing on two 10" RE SE Dual 4ohm Subwoofers. I explained where i was located and all that good stuff, so we should see.
My buddy back in high school had a 15" XXX in his sebring with a custom built like 5 cu ft box.... Holy crap did that thing pound. If I remember correctly he was running it off a Hifonics Brutus 1500D
Bro, you'll want to end up with a 2ohm load.. And since that amp is internally bridged, you'll want to send 4ohms to each input..
For two subs, you'll want:
dual 2ohm VC's
Single 4ohm VC's
Dual 2's would be ran in series, to make each sub effectively 4ohms.. then ran to the amp, it'll drop it to 2ohms..
They can put in ANY voice coil configuration for $25 I believe...
Good choice on the RE's by the way, I was going to suggest them but decided to wait and see how things played out..

"If life throws you a curve, pop the clutch and drift it!"
Well then there is a problem with the SEs, they are all dual 4 ohm. are at least thats whats listed at reaudio.com
^^^Exactly, ask them if they can do dual 2's on the SE's.. I know for a fact that they charge $25 for any VC configuration on the XXX's, but i'm unsure about the SE's..

"If life throws you a curve, pop the clutch and drift it!"
So two 10" SE /w Dual 2's would be pretty good with that amp then?
