i have 12" subs i want to get an amp for...do i need a 1 or 2 channel amp?

either will work. i've seen some where where they recommend a mono amp for 2 subs and a 2 channel amp bridged for a single sub.

Are the subs single or dual voice coil? 2 ohms? 4? 8?

What are the amps you're looking at stable to? 4 ohms? 2? 1?

Answering those questions will help us answer your question.
