Blinkers and brakelights don't work?
Wednesday, August 10, 2005 9:35 AM
Alright, back in the beginning of the year I swapped my 2003 sunfire front end to a 95 cavalier front end. The guy I switched with had shaved the corners on his front end. I didn't think anything of it at the time, now my blinkers do not work and my left brake light is out. I have changed the bulbs and been to the dealer. Dealer says it has something to do with not having blinkers up front. There was a recall performed on my car for the sockets at the rear bulbs being bad but that was already taken care of before this stuff started. Any ideas on how I should go about fixing this problem or am I going to have to get new fenders and put in corners or what? Needless to say I have about fifteen brake light tickets and I can't figure this out. And now my horn is extremely weak also. It really seems like all of this is due to the same problem so ANY ideas are welcome at this point. Thanks

Check fuses and bulbs for one. Anytime you turn on a blinker, some light should come on. Typically if one is burned out or disconnected, the other (back in ur case) will blink 2x faster than normal. It could be that your left brake light is just burned out now, so you may as well replace both rear lights while you're at it. Also, you say the swap is a 95 Cav, which has separate turns and parking lights in the front, so as long as the turn signals are hooked up correctly you should be fine. Parking lights (corners) are nothing so don't worry about them. And next time you get pulled over for brake lights, just show the office your most recent ticket for it, he'll probably let ya go

As for the weak horn, dunno about that. Corroded terminals maybe?? Can't imagine they'd be too bad on an 03 Fire tho...

Unfortunately, I changed the bulbs several times already and it does not help. The right blinker indicator does blink really fast, but the left one will stay lit and emit a high pitched buzzing noise when activated. And there are no blinkers in front on my car I thought that was what the corners were for never really had them so..... where are your blinkers at?

I have a 2000, so my front end is different. Do you have a pic of the front of your car?? One thing you could do is hook up signals in the front so it doesn't cause problems, put bulbs in them, and just let them hang inside the bumper. For the most part nobody will see them, but it could prevent some of your problems.
