I'm going to have 2 orion 1200d's really soon, and i was wondering what all i should upgrade?
Right now i have 0 ga wire from the (stock sized) battery to the distribution block, 4 ga to the amp, 4 ga from the amp to ground. 4 ga upgraded big three. 4 ga alternator to battery wire. 180A alternator.
I'm figuring i should at LEAST upgrade my alt to battery wire to 0 ga, and i know it needs to be fused (i know, i should be fused, i didn't install it in the first place though).
Also, anyone know what type of connector i can use to connect to the back of the alt?
Any other suggestions would be welcome.
upgrade your stock battery....and add another one.
to connect a wire to the alt....you just need an regular ring connector.

Should both batteries go in the trunk, or does it matter?
Yellow or red top optimas?

Try out Kinetik Power Cells, I bought one and we started carring them at our store, every employee has one (that has a system) and they all love em.
Go to their website
Kinetik website
I have an Optima red top up front and a 1400amp Kinetik Power Cell out back, my amp stays pretty cool, and the car starts up without problem even after being at car shows for hours with my screens and system on.
Nobody said i have to use optimas. I was planning on using them, and was wondering which is the appropriate style. Also, if i knew which one was suggested, i could look at other battery makers for similar stats.
Definitely use the yellow top optima. The red top is designed to start your vehicle, and thats it. The yellow top is a "deep-cycle" battery that is designed for use on a vehicle with a sound system.
Cracker Rocket wrote:Definitely use the yellow top optima. The red top is designed to start your vehicle, and thats it. The yellow top is a "deep-cycle" battery that is designed for use on a vehicle with a sound system.
Not exactly. The yellow top is able to be completely discharged and then recharged to close to the same level or "deep cycled" multiple time, but the time it takes to actually discharge the power. A red top has a higher amperage rating and has a quicker response time.
If you plan on playing the system while the car is not running a lot, then yes a deep cycle batttery is probably the better choice. Otherwise, I would think about using a battery with a higher cold cranking amperage.
-Chris
That was what i thought the trade off was. I'm not planning on playing my system much with the car off, so i should be looking for a battery with high CCA, right?
That's what I would recommend

I just look at kinetik's website, and "the monster" sounds like an AWESOME battery. And it damn well better be for $450!!! I could get a 200+ amp alternator for that much.
James, any chance you could hook someone up with a better cost on that?

I highly doubt that the everstart battery is better then an optima. What claims do you have to back this up?
^^^^^^^^^^^^ i'd like to hear this

an everstart max will disown a yellow or redtop. more power for quarter of the cost.
Optima got a powerful name from hype, and offering a battery thats better than factory, not much better, but better. Many people use them in their sound systems because of availability and thats what the salesman says to get because thats the only battery they carry. I used to sell them, and I had 6 of them at one time. My Deka wooped their asses. People will always buy with name recognition, thats what makes big companies bigger.
here's the battery i run now...less then 5" tall, 5,000 amps and 20kw of power.

What kind of battery is that?
Kinetik's batteries look good, but they're f-in expensive. I'm also lookin' at an enersys odyssey pc2150, only 220, which is damn cheap compared to the kinetik stuff. Here's the stats on the
odyssey

You gotta be the best BARGAIN HUNTER IN THE WORLD!! You are always claiming that a cheaper brand or not as well known brand is better than what people have or already know as one of the best, or what works good.
Such as W7's vs your XXX, now a Walmart battery better than a Optima for 25% of the cost. Why not just put together a online website and capitalize on us less knowing people and sell us the better products and make $$ for yourself, seeing as it will still be cheaper than the mainstream products.
Next thing you know your gonna tell us how much faster our ECONMY cavaliers are than a C-6 Corvette. Not calling you a liar, but you seem to have all the answers for products you either can't afford or are just to cheap to buy. Or prolly that a Jensen flip out DVD player is better than a eXcelon or Alpine, or Eclipse.
Tell us where you did all your research and where are the power charts to prove your theory on this battery claim.
"My Deka whooped their asses" is not a very good comparison, it is a personal opinion.
When I made my post I gave a general opinion of what I use and think is good, not telling anyone what is better, you have an opinion also (I respect that) but you always have some trumped up reason of why it is BETTER than Brand X, get what I mean?
I was making a suggestion, you are stating info as a FACT, which is only a opinion.
This is as bad as a MTX ad trying to compare to JL, not stating antthing good about there own product, but talking trash about another. Not good sales tacticts.
Instead of dogging one product, just give reasons as to why another is good.

I tell what i know and what i've learned from experience, you don't need to pay 200 dollars for a battery to be good. I've been around, i've learned what works, simply passing information on.

I could care less about w7's, that has nothing to do with batteries.

can't afford?...too cheap to buy? dude, if you seen my garage FULL of expensive ass audio equipment you'd bust a nut...(i just put away a brand new Butler TDB 575 yesterday morning

again, i'm sharing information i've gained of what works through experience. if something works just as good or better for cheaper, then i'm gonna speak up

no where did i claim anything as fact

That is where you wriote your opinion as a fact.
i'm not trying to have a pisssing match, just letting you know how it looks from my point of view.
And please, your garage? If we are gonna start bragging about equipment, I think I'm all set.
I was comparing you to how MTX sells products, not saying you are trying to.
Once again I respect your opinion, but what experience do you have that qualifies you as an expert? Besides you've been around.

as i said before, i'm simply sharing knowledge i've gained from my own experience. Never claimed to be an expert. But you have absolutely NO idea who your talking to on the other side of your monitor...so i wouldn't jump to conclusions so fast if i were you.
My word isn't the last word, nor do you have to listen to it. you wanna use optimas, go right ahead. you wanna use caps, nobody's stopping you.
and if you don't like my posts, PLEASE refrain from reading them.

I'm failing to see where he stated it as a FACT. He made a statement, that is all. Nowhere did he say it was a fact.
I guess whenever you type something we should take it as a fact, and then call you out on it. Since that seems to be what you are doing here.

Training or working in the field of Car Audio is what I would think could qualify someone as an expert. Being a certified installer, and working with Car Audio for 10+ years.
Having statistics on products, and not using "this is better than that" without any tests or reports to back it up.
Not only do I work at "a car audio store" but I have been to JL AUDIO and have taken the "SCHOOL OF SOUND", and I have taken NUMEROUS Training seminars from EVERY VENDOR we carry (MTX, Eclipse, DEI, Panasonic, JL AUDIO and more). And I still do claim to be an expert, it just seems that some people think they are.
Once AGAIN, I was stating what I use, Never claimed anything to be better than another.
I also respect your opinions, but was wondering what knowledge you had to back up your claim as how the $60 battery from WALMART is BETTER than a Yellow Top Optima.
Cavi in KC - Call me out on anything you want. People do all the time, and look stupid when I PROVE IT!! Like people not believing my trunk lid moves an inch off the body of the car from my 8W7's, well after posting the video, I did not hear another doubt.
Remember if you do buy the optimas you can ask for battery color covors from them as well. My friends optra 5 has 2 yellow tops wit red covers right now.
I would love to own either a XXX or W7....... But I am stuck until next year really. (and even then I plan on using 2 10' DVC 4ohm Brahma's. You are both pretty smart guys in this field, so I really kind of take it ard on who to beleive when people get into arguments over details such as batteries.

I give up...
i'm buying a VW those people love trees, so they should love eachother too... "Andy"
