"laggy" sub? Delay in sound.... why?
Wednesday, August 10, 2005 11:21 AM
Hi,

Received my sub, box and amp yesterday, Lightning Audio Bolt 105.2 amp, Cerwin Vega HED 8" sub, and Q-Logic box ( Type 2, "wedge", 0.6cu. ft). Everything works graet, except that there seems to be like a delay when the sub hits, like it hits a fraction of second after when it should, and its pretty annoying. Any idea how I could solve this? Would a bigger, 1cu.ft box help it? The box is sealed by the way. My wires are 8AWG power, 4AWG ground, and 12AWG speaker.

Thanks,

Guillaume

bigger box will actually make the sub less responsive also make sure its in a sealed box that will help response, thats usually never even a problem with anything less than 12s

I know! I had a pioneer 10" sub in a custom-made slot port box, tuned to 35-ish HZ, and it had better response from what I can remember. It also not with every songs.

I bought the box usedn - could the box have a leak or something? How do I verify this?

Thanks!

I think you had posted before about that sub/box combo, and everyone had told you to make a box. Q-logic boxes aren't that great, and if the sub's been bumpin a bit, some of the seams might have worked loose.

Lanman: I know, building a box is the next thing I'll be doing, but I'd like to know that it effectively is the box that is ther culprit, and how I can make a better one.

As for the seams... I noticed that on the very edge, near a screw, there's a crack about 1" long on the surround. It's not completely torn, but you think that may be the culprit? Anyways to fix that @ home?

For the box, what dimensions should I use? Thanks!

put some sealant on it

contact cement

clear nail polish

liquid nails

silicone sealant

anything like that would be fine.

Really? I almost put superglue on it last night, but I feared it would be too stiff or not work at all... Thanks a lot

Cheers,
