I purchased an ANL fuse holder off ebay and im a tard and though it was a conventional cylinder type fuse holder, however its not. Are ANL fuses ok to use like any other fuse for an audio system? and what size would you recommend for say a jl audio 500/1 amp?
ahhh, like i said...tard
i am using 4ga wire, is the rating printed on most wire?
JL recommends a 50 amp....just use that
for future reference....you shouldn't use anything bigger then about 125 amp fuse on 4awg.

Yeah I had a 150amp fuse also, actually 2.
One was under my hood because I had a relay set up. And the other was in my trunk, from the battery in there to the amp.
Thanks

i used a breaker when i had my system, just cause its easier to reset the breaker then replacing fuses
Aaron - A 50-60 amp fuse should be fine.
Sndsgood - What would be the big deal with replacing the CORRECT fuse? If your fuse was tripple the rating of your amp, if you had a short the fuse would take to blow.
Dr. Paul - If done right you should not need to replace fuses, I don't.
lol thats true...but you know those "oops" moments you get especially when first buildin the system...
^^^ Like when you forget that a capaciter still ahs power when you disconnect it... that was most definately an oops moment.
You're reading my line-break, you are a loser.

nothing wrong with running a smaller fuse. u just have to remember to buy another one when u get another amp. most people dont think about it, then they end up running around trying to find a bigger fuse from their local store or if its a sunday your waiting a day to get it in. if u put the fuse in to match the wire size and length, there is allot less chance u will need to replace it at all. ive had a 150 amp fuse for around 8 years now. if i would have only put in a fuse big enough to handle the original amp load i had i probalby would have had to replace the fuse 4 or 5 times over the years when amps have been changed out. just saves you money. locally those type fuses can run around 4-5$ why buy one that is basically maxed out with the amp u have. when u can buy one that will serve u allot further down the line.
