ok, finally got around to setting my subs up right and now when i raise the volume up they'll work for so long then cut out and after a lil while come back on. or i can lower the volume to zero and put it back up and they're on again? just wondering if this is due to my power wire or if a cap would fix this. i have a 800w max kenwood amp pushing two 10" 150w RMS/450w MAX subs. also if get a cap what size should i get? i am getting rid of this setup soon to upgrade to a Alpine Type R 12" and new amp. thanks for any help.

Hey man i have a similar setup i have 2 audiobahn 10's with a 800 watt audiobahn amp...
the rule of thumb is 1 farad for every 500 watts
so what i did was got a 1.2 farad and it improved my sound unreal made a big difference and now i don't have the lights dimming and the battery drain like i did before

Make sure your have your subs wired to the correct ohm load that your amp can handle. Your amp is prolly going into protection mode which is why it cuts out, comes back on then cuts out again. What ohm are those subs, are they dual voice coil or single, and what is your amp stable to in ohm?
As far as the farad caps go, I am running 1600 peak/ 800 RMS amp for my kicker L5, and 400 peak/200 RMS for my components without using a farad cap and I get no dimming or battery drain. Upgrade the "Big 3" search around there are many posts telling how to do it.
That same thing happened to one of my friends and he wanted me to check it for him to see what was going on. the problem turned out just beiing he didn't get the clamps on the ends of the wires good enough on the ground.. it was loose and moved some so it would cut on and off.
Make sure you check your power and ground wires and make sure everything is all wired right.

You cannot stress that enough, you have to check everything and then re-check it, every wire counts.......i had the same problem a couple times...
first time was a bad ground
second time the RCA cable disconnected in the back of the CD player
it can be real frustrating sometimes, but just keep making sure everything is connected properly and eventually it'll work

ok the wires are all fine! i've had it all hooked up for a long time with no problem. i just didn't have the gain up at all.
and the subs are 4 ohm single voice coils and i believe the amp can go up to a 2 ohm load.

what i did on my system to avoid any power issues like this is set up a relay to a yellow top in my trunk. Never had anything go wrong and never need a capacitor or anything
Of course now everything behind my front seats is pulled out of the car because its undergoing construction heh.

Sounds good to me then. You can take those 2 (4) ohm subs and wired down to a 2 ohm load and be all good. So if it isn't bad grounds make sure your gain is set correctly, remember it isn't a volume control....
i just noticed too that i didn't say anythign about my power wire. the question i was originally asking about my power wire is if it could be the problem due to it being 4 gauge back to my trunk to a distribution block and then shoots out to 8 gauge wires to my amps. my amp says that i should use either 4 gauge or 8 gauge. just wondering if this could be the problem or not?

If your amp says either 4 or 8 gauge there shouldn't be a problem with using 4 gauge.
