Right now I have my ground on one of the rear strut mount bolts. My amp keeps shutting off and I'm pretty sure it's not grounding well enough. Short of drilling a hole and mounting a grounding lug, are there any other good places on the drivers side in the trunk to run the ground wire to?

Seatbelt/seat bolts will work but you're gonna need to sand down the metal.Still won't work as well as mounting directly to the metal though.

Try factory grounds.

If you pull back the carpetting on the driver's side you will see a seamingly randomly peice of metal there with an even more random hole in it.
Use a file or sandpaper to expose the metal around the hole, and use a bolt to connect your ground there.
Thats what I've used for every electrical thing back there and have never had any problems. Also I know quite a few other people have used this.

Thanks, I'll check it out.

thats probably for the factory amp...thats where mine is
if u look on the top towards the very back of the trunk when u pull back the carpeting there is a bolt that works perfect for grounds. u have to feel for it its in the top right corner where i grounded mine and my gf's system.
I drilled a hole in the bottom of my tire well and ran my 1/0 cable through (Then siliconed it closed of coarse) and went to a rather large bolt that holds the rear bumper on. Seems to work well.
Be sure to upgrade the ground on your battery as well, not much point in having a nice ground on your amp if the stock ground wire is small.
When Lundis first installed my Basslink, he used a hole on the driver side behind the triangular plastic trim piece.
Just pop out the black hold tight push pin, to access it. When i had to upgrade wires, i uded the same point, no problems with it. Try it. You just need a nut and bolt to hold it in.

According to my 97 Sunfire factory manual, there is a factory ground under the passenger seat. Unsure if this applies to a Cav.

Thats where mine is grounded to as well, i had some problem with it the second time i put my system back in, as it kept wiggling loose, but we just played with it, and its been fine ever since.
If you dont have the spare tire in there but the metal bracket is still there, you can find a bolt to fit that. Works great!
Well, I ended up using one of the holes in the bracing on the drivers side, filed out the hole, sanded down the paint, and bolted on the ground cable. Still having a problem with my JL 250/1 shutting off (even when cold) so I dunno what's up. I'm going to hook up the amp in my wife's car and see how it does. If it shuts off the I guess the amp will need to be repaird, if it does work then I dunno what's up. My no name Urban Audio 700w (peak) amp works fine running my JL 12w6 @ 3ohm, get's hot as hell but doesn't shut off.

I drilled a hole at the bottom of the spare wheel well, and sanded it then just put in a large loop butt connector...
mines on the strut tower... works fine

You all seem to have decent grounds but you worked too hard for it! Take off your spare tire cover and notice the huge bolt that goes through your spare tire to hold it in place. Put one nut on that bolt then slip your ground with a gold-plated eyelit on that bolt and use a second bolt to pinch your GP Eyelit in place. I'm pushing 1,400 continuous watts and my ground works flawlessly! I used my entire spare tire compartment for my custom install so it looks nice but im sure you can use that bolt to ground your amp without even taking that spare tire out.
