How much airspace? sndsgood or pro's :D

I have 2, 12inch MTX Thunder 8000's. (T8124)
Page 5-6 Here for there spec sheet

I'm going to be building a sealed enclosure that will seal off the cabin from the trunk and have the subs fire into the cabin.

I'm looking at these frequency response maps and all these technical numbers and trying to decide what size box to put these in! I'm going for sound quality with this install I know it will be loud enough to give me headaches even with the crappy Sony amp I will be using. I tend to listen to alot of drum and bass so I'd like this to come out good. Any indepth info on what size airspace I should go with would be great. Thanks!

generally for sealed i'll go as big as i can get, youlle lose a few db's of output, but the sub will player lower. i'll go as big as i can (within specs) but not so big that i eat up all my trunk space. if in doubt call up mtx's tech support. i'll usually call a manufacturer before i build a box to get their reccomendations.

they list between 1-2 cubic ft for sealed.

the lower volume will give you a tad more power handling...with increased spl. the larger volume will give you more low-end output.

depends what you want out of it. you could go somewhere in the middle as well.

i have the same sub.. i have two of the as well, however, im just going to use one.
i was going to build my box this summer, that was until my cdplayer started giving me a bunch of crap... so now it looks like i may need to get a new cdplayer... got my eyes on an alpine.
my box will be around 1.5 cubic feet... i just thought i'd go for the middle and get the most of both at the same time!!

since you're using both subs, i have an idea.... something i thought about was to build one box but have seperate enclosures; one for each sub. that would give you better results... also, expanding onto that; you could make one enclosure 1cubic foot and the other 2 cubic feet... that way you'll have one sub giving you the deep ranges and the other the spl output... just a thought!

by the way, i have the other sub for sale if you or someone you know is interested!!

Thanks that is mostly what I was wondering. And it makes more sense now that I look at the chart. The more airspace it has the lower the Hz and less airspace has a higher dB.

Actually wouldnt the there be some cancelation going on there if you were to do that. the sound waves might cancel each other

not nessicarily cancelling them out, but to get higher output you need more power or more conespace, so if one box is hitting right at 50hz and the other box was hitting right at 50hz. your output would be increased(higher spl) but now with two difrent sized boxes if one is hitting rith at 50hz, chances are good that the other one won't be hitting at the same level at 50hz. so your losing out on the extra output. not the best thing to do in my opinion. or u can think of it has having two cavaliers or 1 corvette.
