8 12's in wall?
Friday, July 22, 2005 11:15 PM
I just bought 8 12 inch kicker comp subs i plan on putting them in a wall. i am going to power them with a phoenix gold xenon amp 0/1 gauge wire and 2 red top batteries. I read that those subs can be free air so i was going to build a wall and seel it off from the front. My question is should i do what i planned to do or should i port them and build a box? what do you think my DB's will be? the rest of my system consists of another phoenix gold 200.4 runnig 1 pair of 6.5 inch boston acoustic components and pair of 6,5 inch mid bass speakers?

I don't think you can power all those subs with one amp because the ohms will not match and they will need more power. You would have been better off getting 4 better subs and extra amps. BTW: I don't think installing those subs free air is a good idea, go ported.

shhhh bigj480...no talky about equipment you don't know about.

The PG Xenon has a regulated output that will push 1300~ watts at any load 1-4 ohm. By using a system of series//parallel connections he can easly get it to that range. And with their RMS of 150 watts per sub 1300/12= 108 per sub. Not quite meeting RMS but it will suffice.

livinlarge, do you know what a wall is? It is a box built to the maximum area of the cabin of your car behind the driver seat. While these subs do "work" free air, it is not going to work very well. Simply build a large box in the trunk and into the backseat.

I'm afraid you have bitten off the proverbial more then you can chew man But with time and money you can do it

And BTW, you will never be able to fit a box for 12 ported 12s in a sunfire, not gonna happen logistically.

I agree, I have 3 basslink t's. everyone said they wont fit. Sounds like 9 12"s, and @ $600 a piece, I have yet to find someone not impressed with them.

Yeah, HCs are nice. I'll see what mine sounds like in a week, I'm getting two more subs after I get my 300A alt.

Basslink? Infinity Basslink? Do they cost $600 a piece or do they sound like 9 12s that cost $600 a piece? It is the latter I'm going to have to pull out this guy: 3 infinity basslinks do not sound like 9 JL 12w7s

All i said were 9 12"'s not JL 12w7s

YOu know there are other 12" subs like infinity Kappa, and kappa perfects for instance.

The basslink T's cost $600 and contain 1 10" kappa with 2 10" passive radiators, and with amp contained.

I know a few people on the site alone that would agree that my original Basslink that i bought and had installed by Lundis, sound like 2 12"s.

Like I said in my ealier post I didnt know if what you had was $600 or you were refering to 9 12s worth $600. While I'll admit passive radiators can perform absolute miracles to the ears, 9 12s being compared to is a little excessive. Especially with that rig only accepting 250 watts. I have seen/heard the smaller basslink and that thing did sound amazing, but the output was lacking. But I would put it at 2 crappy 12s but with muuuuch better SQ.

i am sorry but you basically wasted money on buying 8 12"subs. The more subs you have does not by any means mean that it will pound more than even 2 subs. It is all in the power and not in the number of subs you have. Your subs are going to be soo under powered it will sound like junk.Personally I think you would have been better off buying two 12" subs and running proper power to them. Also free air hahahahaha. come on

I paid $200 for the 8 12's and they are not under powered if you read the first post you would know that the subs are 150 rms and my amp puts out 1300 rms so 1300/8 equals 162.5 so they actually are over powered but i don't expect you to figure that out because you don't know how to read. and they wouldn't technically be free air the wall would be sealed off from the front then the trunk area would be sealed off so by doin that it will be sealed by using the metal from the car.

i own a phoenix gold x1200.1 and know for a fact the amp does not put out 1300wrms(i have the birth sheet sitting next to me). The subs will be free air any way your do it unless they are physically in a box.As for paying only $200 for 8 subs....... can u say paper cone.hahahahah. good luck with your sweet setup bud.

150wrms to me is a paper cone. Very entry level to say the least. I personally think you would have been better off buying 2 of some serious subs(re xxx, jl, kaption)and running that amp to them. Also do you plan to compete with this setup? I sure hope not

Please tell me you are joking......either that or you are VERY ignorant.

As for the paper cone statement, you do realize that quite a few subs that people wouldn't consider "entry level" even today, used paper cones? For your underpowered statement, so what? It means nothing. When did subs being underpowered start having to do with sound?
