Ran a search, didn't hit much...
I want an alarm, remote start, some accessories would be nice (i.e. being able to roll down the windows, open the sunroof) but not necessary. Would also be nice to pop the truck and such. I'm not an electrical engineer, but can work my way around a schematic. Should I go ahead with the install?
FYI, I'm looking to get a CompuStar system.

Built not bought, check that!
Some basic understanding of the vehicles wiring system and being able to use DMM will help ease the process. If you aren't worried about frying the vehicles electric system then it is really just a matter of connecting wires from the brain to the vehicle wiring harness under the dash. I have personally never done a remote start, so I cant comment on that. Doing the windows and moonroof will require extra add-on modules but even those are a matter of plugging into the brain/wiring harness. You can do it
I would not recommend that you do it. Compustar and DEI have some of the hardest systems to install. I recommend finding an experienced Compustar installer. Not just someone that can install and alarm someone experienced with Compustar.

As long as you can get your hands on the install manuals, any alarm is easy to install. It's just a matter of connecting the right wires. Ask if you're not sure, someone here is sure to be able to help. (if not.. I'm sure I can.. but I'm not a "professional")
Back in 2000... professional installers were afraid to touch 2000 Cavaliers because the airbags would go off... or so the urban myth went... I did my own install and everything was fine. Gotta learn somewhere

Pretty much figured what you say John, I'm no genius but I can cut and splice wires

Never learn if you don't try. How many wires are in there in a normal kit?
