with my speaker wire...how can i tell which is the positive wire and which is the negative wire

isnt the rule of thumb red for + and black for -
or if you have it connected to speakers typically they make the spade connector for the positive larger.

Well, I could be wrong, but if your wire is clear and the wires are silver colored and the other is gold colored, usually the silver would be for power and the gold (most likely copper) is ground. At least that's how I wired up my LED's.
actually its teh opposite. gold is positive
aren't the darker wires (like navy blue and sky blue) always negative??
