Breaking in subs
Wednesday, July 13, 2005 7:33 PM
I just got my subs...2 12" type-r's with a MRD-M1005 amp. The guy who installed them told me to break them in i have to play them for a total of 8-10 hours and i can only go up to volume 18-19. I just want to know if it was alright for me to turn them up to like 24 for about a minute. I didnt really even notice what i was doing until i caught myself. Was this bad for my subs?

basically what the guy meant was dont crank it up full blast right away. use them at a good volume for a little before you give um hell

ive never blown a sub and ive never broke them in. majority of subs are broken in at the factory.

My neighbor went to school for audio design etc, and used to travel all around doing project vehicles, They used to hook brand new subs up to power and ground sometimes on a battery, sometimes inside on a wall outlet to break them in, he said if the sub couldnt handle that then they didnt use them.

They used to win at alot of shows, and did both SQL and SPL vehicles

Sometimes in the winter, its best to play it quieter at first and let the coils warm up, if you blast it right away its easier to blow a sub
