Opinions on this setup:

Car audio isn't really my forte, so I just wanted to get some opinions on this setup. I'm shooting for a half decent setup that won't break the bank.

Front 4X6 speakers: Audiobahn AS46Q

Rear 6X9 speakers: Audiobahn AS69Q

Amplifier: Profile AP1040

How reliable are audiobahn speakers?

My next question: I already have a subwoofer/amp in the trunk. I have one set of outputs on the amp and the amp I'm looking at adding needs two sets of RCA inputs. Can I just run another set of RCA's from the out on the AP1040 back into the channel 1/2 input of it or should I just use a splitter?

I really like the amp I'm looking at because I can set the high pass and low pass frequencies for both sets of channels independantly. If you know of a better one in the same price range, let me know.

Thanks for your input.

honestly if u want good clear and clean sound at just about any volume i would get a good set of components and a nice amp to power them.. you dont necesarily need rear speakers at all to be honest. truthfully if ur head unit has front and rear or even fron, rear, and sub pre-outs, i would suggest running your sub, getting the components, runnig that amp off the front channel pre-outs, and tuning it. Just to summarize my rant heres what im running and the sound quality is awesome, JL12W0 running off a Rockford P3002 bridged 4 ohm mono, and alpine type R 6.5 inch components running off a rockford P3002 amp, speakers are in the door, tweeters are in the upper dash part by the windshield angled slightly forward to make up for the angle of the dash piece, so theyre aimed almost straight up at the windshield. anyone who disputes the sound quality of this setup is welcome to listen to my system at any time.

I find my rears very important, + avoid Audiobahn Speakers..

As said aboe, a decent set of comps would make you happy, amp & sub.

if u got the sub(s) amped and tuned correctly, and you got a nice set of components amped and tuned correctly, i dont see how you can say rear speakers are very important, and i HAVE listened to and thoroughly checked out SQ comp winning cars...ONE of the lot had rears. and they even admitted they were more show than function... reviewing this post i may be coming off as an ass the way i just said that, but thats not the case at all, i just wont back down off a topic when i know what im talking about lol

I took your advice (but still cheaped out) on a set of 6 1/2 Blaupunkt Components. I got them for $50 shipped with some free adapter plates for the front door. I realize they won't be as good as one of the $200 setups, but I'm hoping they will work for my needs. Should be better than a pair of crappy 4X6's at the least.

i can tell you this though.. audiobanh does have a pretty nice component set... i hooked up two sets of them, for the front and rear, in a much much older suburban, and they sounded pretty damn good... wel thats my opinion!

When you get into the hardcore stuff..you get stuff like that. Image enchancement off the front windshiled = a must of course, and properly setup rears can be a major factor as well, on smaller hatches it is a MASSIVE factor on any small hatch. My installers 71 mini GT has one many SQ comp's and its rear comp's play a big role in the overall experience. (Mine are not really all to important, but I carry passengers in the rear of my car on a bi weekly basis, So I don't want to dissapoint them. I don't really wanna argue about it though, rears can hurt your setup, do nothing, or greatly improve it. It is all just how it is done with what and your car.

YES* his rear in that setup = unwired. + they are Sony's so he is better off. Ill try and get pics of my installers mini ****

Alpine's demo cars are a extreme example you could say*

Did you get the AP1040 still? I just had a coworker get one for her car and it's decent especially for the $100 she paid. She's running a set of Kicker RS4c Components in the doors off the front channels and an Alpine Type-S 10" off the rear channels bridged. Works well considering her budget. Hopefully she'll get more money soon and we can get her a mono amp for the sub.

The Profile amps are ok. the only complaint that i have about them is that they get hot especially in the summer and sometimes they would turn off.

hey short hand, im not doubting in some cases rears can help. but i am just saying in my particular set up and as is the case in most cavies, as i said, if set up and tuned and aimed correctly, rears arent necesary, although in your case, caring about the passengers makes sense... but i definately dont care about anyone whos gunna be in my back seat as long as i have the unbelieveable sound quality i got lol... but not to thread jack bro sorry, wish u the best of luck with the components you got, good to see you getting components rather than just replacing the speakers.

I haven't ordered the AP1040 amp yet, but I'm going to do so soon.

When finished, I'll have a set of Blaupunkt 6.5 components and Kicker 6X9 3 way's powered at 80W RMS and a single 10 in a bandpass powered by a mono amp(Profile HA700M) at 200 RMS.

I appreciate everyone's advice(if you ever have a suspension question, I can help you out there ).

helping is no prob man, i just like when i see threads like this go like this, a couple people who seem to know what theyre talking about putting in their constructive opinions, no bickering, no talking out your ass, just calm, knowledgable advice. and as far as suspension, well, if u think ur a suspension guy, you might like my set up, right now its pro kit on stock struts, with the GM front strut tower brace, when finished i plan to have the subframe brace that an org member here was selling, front and rear sway bars and some agx's what ya think?

I found that my car had too much understeer with almost that exact setup your talking about (only difference is I'm using H&R springs).

Once I put my tie bar on that fixed that(neutral). Event posted an article about making a tie bar yourself for like $20. If you want to do it and can't make the brackets yourself, let me know.

no SQ comp car i've ever listened to has had rear fill. and if the judges hear ANY from the rear..that's a bad bad thing, lol.

the point of SOUND QUALITY is to accurately reproduce the music as if it was being performed for you in person..LIVE. having speakers behind you diminishes that aspect.

What happens when you get into 5.1 setups ? It will be taking a bigger role in car audio sooner or later.

Hers is mounted to the back of one of the seats so she can fold it down into the air conditioned cabin to keep it cool. I've had my JL shut off a couple times on me, but when it's 115 out and much hotter than that in a trunk I guess it's to be expected from even the highest quality amps.

If it were being reproduced live as you say then would the 5.1 experience not complete that ? the rumbling of the crowd, etc, 5.1 will put you in the center of it, I can't wait really when this stuff becomes cheaper.

if a band was playing right here in front of me...no music would come from BEHIND me.

if your watching a movie...yes, you would want 5.1 surround sound with 2 channels up front, 2 channels in the rear, a center channel, and a sub channel.

audio guys have been talking about 5.1 setups for around 10 years now, and in 10 years they still haven't gone anywhere with it, there are barely any 5.1 processors on the market, so unless your running a 5.1 processor talk of running your system up that way is pretty much worthless. another factor and more the reason why it hasnt caught on is there is not much media that is recorded in a 5.1 setup. rear fill in cars as small as ours really isn't needed if your system is setup properly. if your front stage is powerful enough, and your bass level is matching the rest of the music, everyone in the car will hear the music fine, the problem is most people are running 10000 watts of bass and small speakers up front on low power or even worse, running it off of the stock headunit power. this is giving you a poor soundstage, and causing poor realism and responce.
