this question is for those who enter bass off's.i recently entered a bass off and i was put in the 0-500 trunk class (?).i played a disc that had a 45 hz note (it seemed the loudest to me) and i hit 132.7.now my system is simple i have:
an older sony es cd player
5 1/4 mb quart's in the kick panels
2 alpine type r 12's wired @ 2ohms in a small sealed box .9 cubic feet per side(divided)
rf power 250.2 on highs
rf 500 bd on subs @ 2ohms
as far as my gain settings the 250.2 is less than a 1/4 turn up,and the 500 is not even turned up it's all the way down.my deck has 5 volt preamp out puts so i really didnt need to do a lot of gain adjustment.my system was set up mainly for rock, alternitive, ect.so is 132.7 good or what?
well i say like this if you get a chance to go to another show that has a bass comp try again cause some meters are off and some like high frequency some like low cause i have hit 149.2 at my highest and like 2 weeks ago i hit 139.5 then a show later i hit 144.6 i mean i won every show first place but still it all depends on the meter and also what song you use but maybe next time try to use a sweep test sometimes that helps cause it uses highs and lows

are you happy with it? if so then thats all that matters. If you arent a hardcore competitor then what you hit is just braggin rights for teenagers. also you could have been on a termlab a very stiff mic in its own. All that matters is your happy with it.
am I the only one who is having a rough time finding SQ compitions ?

Honestly man i dunno if thats good or not but for reference i hit a 131.1 with a single kicker 10" L7 with a 600 watt diamond audio amp in my fiero the other day

And I know people who have done 150's with a single 8".
Like Nate said, if you are happy with it, that's all that matters. Who cares what you hit.

The system has arrived.
Mark (Ricefreecav) I asked some of the guys in the club if what I hit was decent and they said yes for what I got. So in other words for what you got its decent. Yeah it could be better but think about it how many times a year do you really enter a bass off???

i never enter bass off's i just did it just to see what it would do.im planning on ditching the 2 12's and replace them with one 12 soon. its not about the bass its about the music
I have 2 type R 12's in about the same size box, all my stuff is setup for SQ but it metered at 139ish pounding country

Thats with a Alpine V12 1000 watt mono amp pushing them (1 amp for 2 subs)
i hit 140 w/ a 1200 watt lanzar amp and 2 infinity kappa subs. its 90 percent about the amp, and having it PROPERLY tuned.

Hell im hitting 132 to 135 + with my Clif's & a Planet Audio Amp @ 100w @ 4ohms. It is about everything, amp... subs....box.....tuning.... ETC ! (Install as well). My little guys can pound around 500 to 600RMS, but they are only getting 100. Needless to say there is room for more.

The big question is, does it sound good to you?
Sound offs are nothing more than a penis enlargment competition for bassheads.
I know my system is loud, but I also know it sounds how I like it. It took me a lot of time and effort to make it sound as good as it does, and I will be putting even more work into it in the future.
There is such thing as too much bass, especially when it drowns out the rest of the music or there's no logical reason for you to ever listen to it that loud. I hit 136.7dB on the new Termpro meters with one 12" Solo Baric L7 in a sealed box. Did I ever listen to it that loud? Hell no. I'd blow my eardrums. Since then I've scaled down to a single 8" L7 in a Ported box because I realized that I was just wasting my time and money on something completely unreasonable. I knew I would never have the loudest stereo in the world, and I have nothing to prove to myself or my friends.
The other big thing to worry about with a loud stereo is theft. If everyone can hear your stereo when you're driving down the street, so can the theives.
My advise, ignore dBs. Just make it sound good to you. To hell with what a meter tells you. Spend you money on sound matting to improve sound quality instead of on bigger speakers which will inevitably sound worse.

I may be wasting my time and money but it sure as hell is fun to me.
spl is no diffrent then drag racing or playing baseball its about trying to be better then the next guy. nothing wrong with that.
an honest opinion is you should be hitting a bit higher. ive done 132 with a single 12 with 1/4 the power your running.
i think some of it may have to do with the frequency your using, try somewhere in the 55hz range. 45hz may sound louder to you. but chances are youlle do allot more spl in the 55hz range. maybe see if there is a meca event near you. we would do test and tunes for the guys before the contest and do a rta on a frequency sweep to find out what frequency you are hitting hardest at.

thanks for the coments. im actually going to an usaci event in the mornig,im going for the car show part.not to compete in the audio part, i am looking for some new ideas and to see if anyone is using the new alpine type r subs.i understand they are better than the old ones.which i have.
find out what hz your box is tuned for, i went with that, using what the box building program told me the hz level was, and it was the highest SPL that my subs output.

well today i found out my box "peaks" at 39hz.i managed a 135.5 @ 39 hz without any tuning .the guys from the usaci were very helpful.they also had some cool demo cars from directed electronics/orion,alpine,sony and kenwood.
hell ya, I entered @ dbdrag/port war in Woodbridge Ontario yesterday, I ended up pushing 138.7, I beleive the frequency was about 49 or so on the cd, I am not really sure, I kept pausing and burping it .. going threw to see which one would hit the higest., It was a great time, the winner ended up being a 81 Rabbit, hitting 157.9db. Any other jbody.org members there yesterday ? I saw at least 5 to 6 2nd gen z24,s and a couple 3rd geners. Best time I have had in awhile.

cool "shorthand".the guys from the "usaci" let me run a "sweep" to see where my box would peak at the highest spl, which i thought was pretty cool cause it gives inexperieced people like me a chance at a better score.i didnt place in the sound off part but i did place in the car show part. there was some guy there with a crx that hit 158.9 that was crazy.i was about 10 feet away and it jingled the change in my pocket.i dont think ill persue the spl thing but ill do it every once in awhile at shows to pass time.even though it is exciting to post a number and see if anyone can bet it.
