Here is my situation I did a few things when i first got my car 2 years ago. changed the Hu and speakers. Now a week or two ago I noticed that I blew my front speakers. Infinity refrence 5 1/4 comps. and rears Pioneer 4 ways (blown for a while longer. I had them crossed at 125 through my Hu ( Preimier 6600 ). I recently took my sub out to figure out how to redo my trunk since my nitrous install and i lowered the cross over to 80hrz on all my speakers and they sounded horible.
I was wondering if anybody could help me pick out some new components for the front as I'm going to go up to 6.5 and I want to keep the cost under $300 for front speakers.
As for the rear speakers I could care less if I went component back there or 6X9 SQ is what I'm looking for in my new speakers I plan on spending no more than $250 for rears . i get enough bass out of my 12' alpine r.
Two more things. #1. I definately want to put a 4 channel amp in and keep the cost under $450. and #2. What are some good Hu i want something that is wav/mps compatible or possible get a music HD as i Have over 100 cds and get tired of picking 10 to put in my car.
Thanks Jeff
Also forgot to mention I listen mainly to rock / metal and Im out of the bass stage in my life im going toward sq .
I listen to music like. Kill Switch Engage, Disturbed, Zepllin, Metallica, and the occaional old school rap/hip hop like the origional cronic.
Tanks again Jeff
Forget the rear speakers and spend the money you would have spent there on speakers for up front. Your sound staging and imaging will sound much better.
Find a 4 channel amp, run the front left and right to the components and bridge the rear channels to the sub if you're looking to just go with one amp.
Most decent decks will play mp3/wav/wma, so the deck you'll have to do some footwork and see what you like. I haven't seen any lower end models with the hard drives in them, so that would be your best bet, however, if you want real sq, burned/mp3 disks are NOT the way to go, you'll get the best sound out of the original cd. You may want to look into a changer if you don't want to be switching disks contantly.

^ thanks man have you herd any good things on the music hard drives? I also have a separte amp for my sub. Alpine301 mono for my R but i want an amp for my other speakers.
I was considering a Phenix Gold 4 channel as i have owned pioneer, alpine, Hifonics, and kenwood amps in the past. and I have only liked the hiphonics and the alpine but they were for my different sub setups ive had inthe past. Im not to fone of kenwood and pioneer amps as i was when i first got into scar stereo.
does anybody have any feed back on phenix gold amps or polk. I looked at a few on sounddomain and have read the reveiws and seem to be leaning toward thsese brands.
Anybody else have any sugestions on speakers or 2 or 4 channel amps? I hit up Fry's electronics BB and CC and listened to what they sell but I wasnot too impressed.
to the man above, no offense at all, but i strongly dissagree.
if you want good SQ i would get a nice set of components up front, amp them accordingly, toss the rears all together, and just rather than looking to spend as much as possible, spend time tuning and adjusting and aiming, you want SQ, tuning and aiming the speakers accordingly are major in that, i would actualy suggest putting the tweeters on the upper dash part by the windhsield, facing the windshield. aim them slightly up to adjust for the downward angle of the dash piece. so theyre just about straight up at the windshield. thats my advice... someone most likely will contradict it but w/e such is the org
On the other hand....you have other fingers.

1Bad02cav> it makes sense what you said about the tweeters curently I have mine located in the little plastic pannels by you feet aimed up toward your ears ( plastic pannel that runs across door and stops by the hood pop lever ). Thanks alot Jeff
I didn't say Sh!t about SQ, I just listed what he asked for.... I don't run rears myself....

I went to Tweeter today and checked out the boston components and I think i have settled on them as they sounded better than my infinitys and the other components they had in the under 500 price range.
Then also had a boson 6x9 that kicked butt too. I still have to find an amp that i like but at least i got the speakers out of the way. I played in the car audio room for 2.5 hrs today playing with the differnt comps and amps they had.
Thanks for all the suggestions guys
