EQs .... which one to get.
Monday, July 04, 2005 11:18 AM
I was just wondering which EQ I should add to my system. I have been thinking of adding an MA Audio Synergy 30 band eq (SY30EQ).

I have been looking at a few others but I am unsure of which one to purchase.

Please give me some suggestions. Also how are these typicaly wired in? The Kicker 30band eq that I was looking at only has one input into it and 2 out. Do you just control everything from the eq and run a single rca into the unit and connect the amps from the eq?

Thanks
Greg

if you havnt spent allot of time eq'ing systems i'd suggest something like a 14 band or so. and allot of it comse down to control of your system. how are you controlling your system. allot of eq's are just a single imput in and output out or 2 outputs. but if yoru running 3 rca's from your headunit your going to lose that control.

Thanks for the feedback. I ended up selling my old headunit so I bought a Pioneer DEH-8600MP which has a 13 band eq DSP etc built in. It also has an "auto EQ" that will get you close to the correct set up so you can fine tune afterwards. This will do for now.

i use my pioneers built in eq as well...i find it does it's job and really don't have a need for a seperate piece of hardware.

The autoEQ is pretty worthless on my p860mp. Best to do it by ear or RTA. Definately Time align your equipment yourself.

i don't bother with the autoeq or the time alignment.

my front stage is balanced enough for both listeners, so no need for any delay.

Bingo, higher end units usually have excellent built in EQ's , my CDA 9835 (Alpine) has more then enough with a 7 band going to each speaker alone, time correction, x-over etc etc etc...... the list goes on and on.

not to mention the fact that eq'ing can take allot of time to get right, i'd usually spend 2-3 hours getting my 14 band audio control eq setup for shows, now that im going to be running a 30 band. that time is probalby going to be doubled. for most listeners 10 or so bands is good enough to get the job done.
