i want to swap out my door speakers for new 6.5's
im leaning toward a 4-way pioneer to go well w/ my 6x9's in back.
1st of all...any recommendations?
2nd, will i have any depth issues with the window or door panel?
and any other info besides what is in the faq is welcome.
thanx in advance

I had 6.5 Blaupunkt DVC Overdrives. I put them in 3/4 MDF spacer that got srewed to the door. They sat behind the door panel, under the carpet on the door. The magnets were HUGE! When you rolled down the window really slowly you could hear the window barely touch the magnet. It wasn't major, just rubbed against it lightly. THe speakers eventually cut out because they were getting wet from the back from the water going into the door by the bottom of the window.
Now I have 5.25 JBLs on top of the carpet with no issues. I made fiberglass caps for the back of the seakers so they don't get wet.

1. dont go with coaxials. i have 4 way pioneer's in the front cause i too thought that they'd go well with the 5 way pioneer 6x9's in the back... big mistake. you can barely hear them over the 6x9's cause they're aimed at my feet. i'm saving up to sell the 4 ways and buy some infinity kappa perfect components in the front. as for fitment, they fit fine(if your still planning to go with them)
coaxials are FINE...no reason why you can't use them.
and just because a speaker has more "ways" doesn't make it better. i good 2 way coaxial can sound a lot better then some other 15 "way" speaker.

should i go a little smaller so it doesnt touch my window or is there a way to keep them off? n i was trying to get a set w/ the same specs as my 6x9's if that makes any difference

just don't get any that are deeper then like 3" or so and you should be good. after you make a baffle to mount them on you shouldn't have any problems with the window.
you might have a problem with the surrounds hitting the door panel though, so keep that in mind.

6.5 are a tight fit. 5.25 JLs are working just fine for me. You can make an adapter out of MDF or buy the plastic adapter for $15.

is there a size b/w 5.25 and 6.5? would there be that much of a dif b/w the two sizes or would it be noticable enough to wanna go w/ the 6.5's?

Ok ill give it to you fast.
1. I currently have have a 6.5 CL 62 CDT Audio Comp's in my door, (BIG MOFO's), They barely just fit in with the mounts (They neither touch the panal or window).
2. When it comes to speakers... THERE ARE VERY FEW companys Ill let in my cars. For Comp's, Ill only touch Alpine Type-R's/X's , Infinity Kappa's, MB Quart, and MY FIRST CHOICE "CDT" (They win hands down period, When you here them you will know).
3. When it comes to Coax's I am not very picky, I prefer components over them anyways. BUT I do use them for my rear's since it is the easiest fit. Kenwood Excelon, Infinity, Pioneer Premier, Alpine, and Visonik's PRO A Series (nothing else, they make nothing but pure garbage when it comes to anything else but there A series Coax's from 2004. Why Visoniks A Series Gear ? Silk Dome Tweets.... Carbon Fibre Woven cone, fantastic built in vent, The list goes on and when you hear them it is more then a surprise. A tip for Cav's is to cut out the damn carpet, I find it can muffle the sound a bit. (in the rear) Just a warning on this stuff though, all Pro A type gear is very very large, I had to dremmel out some metal to fit these puppies in.

every speaker is a bit diffrent, pull off your door panel. and measure how much room u have, then get the measurements for the speaker u want, then figure out if a spacer will work. allot of 6.5's will fit. but not all of them.
and as said above, in most instances a good 2-way coaxial will sound better then the same priced 4 or 5 way. most of those extra speakers crammed in there are more marketing then sound.
