Alpine Type-R 12's or other?
Friday, July 01, 2005 10:52 AM
I was wondering how good the Alpine Type R 12" subs are? I was planning on getting 2 12"s with a 1000 watt alpine amp but then i listened to them at a local stereo shop and it almost sounded like the Type E's were louder? If you have any suggestions for my system i have about a 850 dollar spending limit on amp and subs.

You can get a whole lot more than that with $850 for just subs and an amp.

You could pick up something like the Cadence Z7000 I am selling for $300 and then grab a pair of ID Maxes with the rest.

Alpine MRD-M1005 $370 at etronics.com

Alpine SWR-1222D 12" Type-R Series Subwoofer (2ohm + 2ohm) $115ea at etronics.com

$250 to spare.

The Type-Rs hit hard. the ones you heard may not have been in the correct size box.

ill have to agree with brian, the extra $250 invest in a nice alarm if you dont have one right now if you have one then get some componets for up front youll be able to put some 6" speakers in the door with some cutting. that system will sound very good.

I have 3 12" type r's in my cavalier with only 900 goin to them and good lord are they loud. I wanna get a 1200-1300 rms at 2 ohm amp to push them cause they have alot more potential to them. but yea they are deff awsome. and btw I have the older 300 RMS ones not the new 500 RMS rolled surrounds.

1. Yes my installer uses them in his show car Mini (71 GT)

2. Sound qaulity is superb. It rivals that of RE, ED(flat cone's not there new crap), etc etc with ease.

3. YES they are f-ing very loud. with 2 type R's running on 75w @ 4ohms each my installer is able to hit 136db inside his mini.... ON 75w @ 4 ohms.

4. The subs he uses are 2 years old and 10inch in size He also uses a custom built bandpass box built into the trunk. (He still has room for a 6 pac k if you drink one before putting it in .

5. probably some of the most responsive subs I have heard in my life. People always seem to forget this when they dish out the money for these subs with huge surrounds.

6. Hope this helps. @ they will sound fantastic as long as you keep with a reputable amp, such as anything offered by hifonics, Planet Audio, Alpine, US Amps, etc. gl.
