Someone help me, radar detector bands
Friday, September 03, 2004 1:57 AM
Holy man I've searched everywhere on what the different radar bands mean. Even howstuffworks.com didnt explain it. But I learned alot about radar detectors

But what do the KA, K, X etc bands mean on radar? My Bel talks to me, displaying the number and then saying what band it is.

I dont get it, I'm sure by it talking and telling me what band it is its trying to tell me something, but right now its just another dumb voice I have to listen to when I drive.

Can ANYONE please explain it, or point me to a good site? TIA
Read this article. I believe it has teh info you seek if I'm correct. I know the manual for my passport 8500 also explains it.

Don't forget VG-2

This is a device that keeps your Detector from being detected. They use this alot in my town. It's a Radar Detector Detector
VG-2 only is useful where detectors are illegal. In the USA this is only Virgina and Washington AFAIK. I normally run with VG-2 off.
Also I wouldn't always ignore X band. I get it alot iby towns by me. On the other hand in the next town over cows out number people 3-1(yet I'm about halfway between newark and NYC ) On the same aspect I only pay attention to X when it gets past its lowest level.

VG2 detects it and protects you from being detected. The only thing is if you still get pulled over the cop can still see your detector and give you a ticket.

Illegal in ontario, Nova Scotia too. I'm pretty much certain they're illegal in all of Canada

That cop took the whole thing way out of context. I mean, I was only going 145 Km/h in that
80 km/h zone because I was drunk and I wanted to get off the roads.

Cops in Ontario WILL ticket you. If you get pulled over on a 400 series highway by the OPP they'll tell you its illegal, take it away, AND ticket you for having the detector, as well as speeding. They just launched a new initiative aimed at targeting people using radar detectors, and are being very strict about it. I'm sure you could get away with it with some town cops, especially if you know them, but the hughway rangers are stiffly enforcing it .
