I got my Kenwood installed now, but my rear speakers don't sound the same as with the stock stereo. The Kenwood has been adjusted, is my factory amp turned off ? and if so how do I turn it on? 2001 Cavalier Thanks
What did you install? Did you install a head unit or an amplifier? Did you change the speakers or what? One thing you can check is if you crossed the wires to the head unit by accident when you installed it. Been there done that...... thats why I say check it lol.
i have the same question. i heard you have to hook up the blue remote wire from your new deck to a pink wire on the factory harness. but i wouldnt try that unless someone says it works , i havent tried it....so let me know what you find out
You shouldnt need to hook the remote wire up to anything on your wiring harness its really if you are going to run an amp. You would run the remote wire from the amp to the remote wire on the back of the head unit. You should already have remote power if you used a wiring harness adapter. Power wires should have been red, and yello and ground Black.
bluzr2 nailed it.. blue (or blue/white) which is remote turn on from the deck, to the pink wire in the factory radio harness. Most harnesses don't include this wire, espeically if you used the Metra 70-2003 (not the T-harness, that is)

ok cool thanks Lenko you are a J-body audio God
is the pink wire at the amp or in the dash?
Does anyone have pinouts for the amp plug?
I used a T-harness for my install, I used the Bestkits BHA2004T, but for some reason it doesn't seem like the amp is working. I unplugged it while playing some music and the rear speakers stopped working. I think its because the speakers go through that even if the amp isn't on. Now I have looked over a schematic for the amp to radio wiring. The Pink wire goes from the deck to the amp, and comes out at E10, I have looked over the harness it has 12 holes but the first 2 are not used. The wire that corresponds to E10 in terms of my understanding (not counting the 2 unused slots) is sort of a pinkish color, it looks more orange, but yet the schematic does not show any orange wires going into the amp.
listening... will be doing my install tonite or tomorrow
Update... no luck...
I found this on ny-jbodies
2003 Cavalier Pin outs
But this is no good to me because my system is not the monsoon as found in 2002-up J's. The turn on wire on the 2000-2001 cars has to be different... ugh.
I had access to the GM service manuals but now i don't.
Ok I have found out that GM made 2 different kinds of amps, I borrowed the 2001 service manual from the library.
Early Production UQ3 (the one i got)
-just gets its power from the battery/ground, i'm gonna check if its getting power
Late Production
-moonson with tweeters and all
-uses radio to turn it on
ok I found out my amp works its getting powe, I changed my stereo settings around it sounds better.
So Lenko this is something you need to add to the FAQ
2000-early 2001 (Mine was made in June)
Late 2001-2005 Monsoon
so what did you do? blue remote turn on ==>pink amp power wire?
For the late production with the monsoon (tweeter, speakers, woffers) you need to connect to the pink wire
For the Early Production the power is not routed through the radio but from the battery/igniion, so its already on.
well my install is completed, we went with the GMRC01 wiring harness (includes door chimes and the 10 min delay after shutting the car off) it had a wire labeled "amp turn on". we just hooked that up to the blue wire and its all good!! thanks for your help tho Jaob!!
