I have a single Rockford Fosgate HX2 10 inch subwoofer in my 2000 cavalier coupe, it is in a crappy homemade box right now. It sounds ok but it would sound so much better with a high quality box, and so i started looking. What I need help with is what is the best company for speaker boxes, where should I get it from, and should I get a bandpass box or a ventilated one? Thanks.
no company will ever be able to match a custom home made box, unless you buy a custom one from them. But then you are looking at $200+ for a sub box. Do some reading and try to build yourself another one. And under no circumstances buy a pre-fab bandpass enclosure. You might as well drill several holes in the sub and call it a fart machine.
would it be a bad idea to go to an car audio store and buy a vented box from them or would they get the same crappy boxes that i can buy? and which would I want to build or buy for my car, a bandpass box or just a ventilated box? the box i have now is not ventilated, only carpeted and speaker box puttied on the inside.
it'll cost less then 40 bucks in material to build you a small sealed box. for one sub it doesn't get any easier then that. GO FOR IT!

Vented subs are better for output but less tranient response(punch) then sealed though. Building a proper bandpass at home is extremely difficult for a novice box builder and will almost always end in a crappy sounding fart box. Build you a nice vented box, it isn't that ahrd
