Simple Question
Tuesday, June 28, 2005 12:41 PM
ok, i just have a real simple question that needs answering. will a radio/cassette player from a 99 cavalier fit in a 89 cavalier. i doubt it will but one can hope. i'm pretty sure the wiring would have to be switched around but what about the space for the H/U. will a stock H/U from a 99 fit in the space provided in a 89??? someone with an 89 has offered to by my stock H/U and i just want to see if it's possible or not. don't want to rip them off.

you'd run into a few problems, first being I don't think it'll mount in easily. Could be wrong tho. But on top of that, the wiring is different. And your 89 isn't set up to handle the Theftlock that the new radio is gonna look for.

Please correct me someone, if I missed something else.

yea, the wiring i knew about, not that big of a deal. the mounting was the main thing that concerned me. and i completely forgot about the theftlock.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the theftlock is only activated when the HU loses all power, such as when it's disconnected. Once you get it installed and enter in the code (assuming you have it), the HU should no longer need anything in regards to theftlock. There is no seperate wire that activates or "powers" the theftlock. As long as you have a "constant power" wire (which you do), you are fine.
