ok will fiberglass boxes how do they do it... ok fiberglass outer but whats underneith? Is it just a wodden ring fiberglassed in to screw the sub into? or is the sub sitting in an actual box thats fiberglassed around? If there no box inside the fiberglass how thick is the fiberglass to actually hold the weigth of a sub and the pressure made by the sub/subs? I know the fiberglass has to have somethign that gives it its shape or whatever shilw it dries... do they cut the shape out of foam and mold over it or soemthing?
The reason for all the questions is at Import Wares today there was a Magnum with a fiberglass enclosure that went from inside the hatch area all the way through taking up all of the back seat area and almost up to the back of the front seats, it was somethign like 12-14 12" subs and I'm sitting ther elooking at this box just like holy @!#$... how did they do that? it was not flat, it was wavy and curvy and completely symetrical from left to right and just freakin enormus
Well, the sub ring is fiberglassed into the box. There is no more MDF than just the ring that the sub mounts to. I did a how-to for my local forum
here. It'll show you, with pics, how I built the box to fit in the corner of my trunk.
I may not know much about cars, but I know two things....
1) Breaking things is expensive, and
2) Horsepower isn't cheap.
you do use mdf for the flat parts.
basically you make a wooden skeleton or frame...and wrap it with grill cloth. stapled down and what not gives you your basic curves. then you apply your resin and mat...smooth it out with body filler and sand it smooth.

yeah basically u can put foil down then resin to get a contour mold then as said before yoe cut dowel rods to hold the mdf and give it its shape then u staple cloth to it and put ur resin, hardener, and FG on the body fill sand and paint it
hey guys, ive started a massive venture into my VS boot, and rest of car wid fiberglass, well here goes,
Its a massive job, which has allready taken me 5 months to get no closer to finishing!, well all u use is MDF on flat spots, and Chicken mesh to mould other concave parts of the install, well mine is fiberglassed into the car, pretty sik once finished, but long way off yet!
