put in stereo...hard work

I just finished putting a headunit in my 2001 Cavalier and all I can say is that it was a pain in the ass.
Heres what I used:
-Bestkits BHA2004T - T-harness with relays
-Scoshe Dash kit
-Kenwood KDC MP5025

At first taking apart the dash was easy and very simple, so that was all ok. Then I went to put the wires through for the amp turn on and preouts that went fine also. After that I pulled the T-harness through and I hooked up the Kenwood deck and the delco one, the chimes worked, but my Kenwood didn't. So I googled the harness model and found that 12V switched wire had to be connected to a switched 12V and not the aftermarket deck. So I used the wiper fuse like everyone says, and I spliced into that wire (going to the harness relays) to use for my 12V switched wire on the Kenwood. I took out the fuse and I stuck the wire in and I put the fuse in.

Heres a diagram:

FUSE 25amp----------------------------------/-----------Relay

Is there a problem with this? *i turned on the stereo and wipers on high speed and everything was good*I might get a fuse tap just to be safe!

So finally my Kenwood started working that was still nothing. I arranged all the wires up made sure everything was perfect (no chaffing). So I go to put in the dash kit with the deck and it doesn't want to go in all the way, the radio was too far into the dash kit. So I took out the kit and I brought the deck a little further out now it fit perfectly. But when I went to put the HVAC cluster trim on, the trim for the radio wouldn't fit (too big), I tryed bending it... no luck. So I cut the ends off with a utility knife, it looks alright but you can see the ends off the deck. After that I put it together and thats how it ended.

I was also pissed because the dealer service guys that installed me a new cluster but they lost 4 screws and the trim around the radio was held on only by clips. And I lost one of those brass screws that goes in the glovebox. (hopefully it'll fall out when i'm driving)

It seems to be like Kenwood, Scoshe, and Cavaliers don't mix.

sorry about the crappy pics..

The spacing was really messed up with this kit, basically I had to put spacers in so it would bring it out to level with the HVAC,cluster trim panel. I think I did something wrong though, I might end up redoing it to see what i missed.

If it was me i would get a different mounting kit they make some that center the radio in the opening yeah you lose the lil storage space but it will look much nicer....

At least you didn't stab your thumb with a utility knife like i did. I was cutting some plastic out of the spacer. I should have got my dremel, but instead I used my utility knife. The fully extended blade went right into my thumb. I went to the ER and got 6 stitches. Two years later it still feels weird, and occasionally hurts. My friends don't let me work on the car alone anymore, which is a good thing because I alwas break something when I touch the car.

Well I found out Scosche messed up royaly when they were writng the instruction to their install kit, all of the other GM car diagram show that spacers need to be used but for the Cavalier/Sunfire its mistyped and its only written in fine print at the bottom that the spacers need to be used. I'm so mad, I had messed up my Kenwood Bezel so I could get this deck to fit in. Without the bezel it looks like garbage, and if I used the actual spacers the deck would look more stock and more flush, I wrote a complaint letter to Scosche. Now I have to go find a new bezel for my Kenwood, on ebay its 14$ US with shipping for just a piece of plastic. I wonder what Scosche is going to have say about this.
