Ok, i am a stereo guy, but i am also a speed guy. We all know everyone cant go out and turbo their car right away. SO, my on going problem i get a big system and i lose about 50 horse...lol any suggestions on lightweight, yet decent systems. Thanks in advance!

I gave up on mine.... sold my RF amp and 12" subs. It doesn't feel like my car has a big heavy butt anymore.

not an audio guy either but,......what i suggest is to not go overboard. just get an amp and 1 nice small sub in the back. thats about the best you can do for lightweight. just have to compromise

You can do what I'm doing. I have an amp for front and rear, and one for ONE sub. Both amps are mounted on the back of the rear seat. I'm making a box out of fiberglass, to mount in the corner. Lightweight, not overboard, but not crappy stock sounding either.



I may not know much about cars, but I know two things....
1) Breaking things is expensive, and
2) Horsepower isn't cheap.

heck replace the 6x9s in the back and power all your speakers, with an empty trunk you can get alot of sound from the 6x9s if they are amped. I have heard a pair of alpine 6x9s beat like 10s before

^^^ like he says.. Good 6x9s in the back and good speakers up front, amp them all with a good amp and you got some weight reduction.

screw the 6x9's go with a single componet set up front 6.5" one single 10" sub, and a single 4 channel amp to power it all. this will give you all your frequencies accurately and less then 75lbs, wich equals a couple of h.p max. u wouldnt be able to tell the diffrence.

Personally, I can go with both statements, although I do prefer having rear speakers. My MTX 6x9's sound like an eight inch sub, and that's off HU power. Granted, I don't care much about speed, and all about audio, so by the third week of july, I figure all 200lbs of my audio will be in.

with amped (sp?) rear 6x9s, does the rear deck rattle alot? asking cause with the stock stuff in it does a little bit every now and then.....

screw that goi big or go home. my car can take a metro and aries k still. what more do I need.

redcav1 i believe what your hearing with the stock speakers is the fact they just clip in and so when they hit hard enough the speaker actually rattles on the rear deck not the deck rattling.

If your rear deck rattles, mount the speakers down real good with some silicon and dynomat or sound deaden the rear deck.

Myself I have a set of 4 way 6x9s that have about 100watts going to em. They hit hard enough that i have to readjust my rearview mirror everynow and then, but they still sound clear. I too was once a big sub guy. Went from 2 10" L5 in a big ported box to 2 12" JL W3v2s and all i can say is I won't do it again. Hurt my ears and was a lot of money for nothing IMO.

just get a little sub.....like 1 10inch with a little amp, so ur stereo sounds good, but doesnt add much weight

sndsgood i would say is on the best track if you want a good quality sound and not too much weight, do a single 10, get a nice 6.5 inch component set up front with the tweeters aimed right, not too close to your ears, amp the components and sub (duh lol), that will sound awesome, also run it off a decent head unit, dont cheap out on the head unit, it makes a difference

yeah but in certain locations your going to acrue cancelation....






6x9's may work for some of you guys but they wont play low enough accuratly enough for a quality sound imo.

get a system thats easily removalble. like, screw the amps to the back of the sub box and with all the power/ground wires, cut them in the middle and put some connectors(i dunno what they're called, but it looks like a wiring harness. actually, maybe thats what they're called. they use them on stock speakers but obviously you'd need bigger ones for the power wire, ground wire, ect) you just unplugs the wires, pull the box out and go to the track. when you get home, drop the box back in, and plug all the wires back together. then you can have a nice big removalble system. thats what i'd do if i raced.

Yeah.... easier for people to steal it that way too!
