Hi, I did a search for this but couldn't find any other posts that covered my problem, so I'm hoping someone could help me out. I installed an aftermarket head unit today and now when I turn on the car, the speakers don't work. Well, tonight, I was in my car looking at it and I turned on my head lights, and my speakers decided to come on! When I change songs, though, the speakers aren't working again. I've noticed that my left front speaker isn't working, and I'm thinking of taking apart the dash and making sure the wires are all hooked up for that speaker, and I checked and all the other speakers were working when they actually came on.
Also, I know that you don't lose your dome lights when you install a different cd player, but for some reason, mine aren't working. My odometer light is also out, but I didn't smack it to see if it'd pop back on. I wasn't sure if maybe it was a fuse that was out (checked only a few tonight, but it was getting dark out and hard to see), or maybe it's how I'm running my power wires (running them under dash to fuse box)?
Also, one more question. Is it a bad thing if the cd player still works even when it isn't grounded?
Any help would be gladly accepted, and if this is posted somewhere else, I apologize ahead of time and would be glad to hear an answer.
Thanks,
David
I have the odometer light issue myself..still havent figured that one out..the speaker thing sounds like you have some wires wired wrong..maybe you have your ignition wire to the radio in the wrong fuse slot..i did that once~LOL~ simple stupid mistake when you get in a hurry..if you dont have both wired properly hooked up for power to the radio..it can cause similer problems..and your radio is probably grounding through your antenna cable..not good bro..find a diffrnt sourse for ground

As of right now, I have it grounded to a spot underneath the steering column..i found a screw that I thought would work the best and it was easy to access, so I'm thinking it isn't the grounding point, but I'll check the fuses and make sure none of them are burnt out, and I'll double check to see which fuse I put each wire to.
If you don't use the stock ground wire, ground directly to the chassis. make sure there's no paint
OK I have everything figured out now. My speakers weren't working because I had hooked the left speaker's negative wire to the wrong gray one, which would explain why the speakers would turn on when I turned on my lights (because the one I hooked it up to was the headlight dimmer wire). My dome lights weren't working because I blew the fuse for it. As of right now, I have all my speakers and sub hooked up and it's working great.
Thanks for everyone's help,
David
wow...the headlight wiring is now located in the radio harness??
