You cold fill it with sand (or water if it isn't cut out) and measure what it holds.

Using the sand method, you would have a seperate container with a known volume (ie box that is 1ft x 1ft x1ft = 1 cubic foot), and maybe one more that is 6in x 6in x 1ft = .25 cubic ft

Using the sand, you can fill the enclosure and then start scooping into the seperate container.

This method is a bit messy, but a heck of alot easier if your enclosure has some odd geometry to it.

If it's airtight you could presurize it slightly with an air tank and see how much the pressure changes from the original value.

Initial pressure * Initial Volume = Final pressure * Final Volume

If you had a 5 gallon air tank pressurized to 10 psi and hooked it up. If the pressure equalized at 3psi you would have:

10 * 5 = 3 * final volume

final volume = 50/3 =16.6gal

16.6gal - 5gal (the tank) = 11.6gal

11.6 gal = 1.55 cubic ft

It's probably easier to do it other ways, but this would work.

What is the converion ratio of gallons to cubic foot?

i heard packing peanuts are a good solution as well..not as messy as the sand but not quite as exact either..phil

if you plan on porting them i'd get it as exact as you possibly can. your going to have to make sure that both subs have the same airspace as each other as well.

Dont you have to subtract the volume of the backside of the sub, or do the recommended box volumes take this into consideration?

eh..as long as it's pretty close. i don't think it would matter if the tuning was + or minus a few.

well since im inverting them i dont think that will be a problem, with sub volume, and yah that why i wanna be like down to the wire for volume, im going wiht 10 inch JL W6's, my 3 weeks with audiobahn have been hell i got some real cool ideas going on
