Keyless Entry
Sunday, June 12, 2005 2:51 PM
My range for my keyless entry is about 4 and a half feet. lol Does anyone know how to get longer range? I got a new battery and that wasn't the problem. Now I'm clueless and don't know what to do. Any suggestions?

all kinds of factors play into that. weather, age of remote(corrosion inside), etc... not really much you can do besides try different things.

Okay, I think the remote is pretty old. I gotta buddy that's got some new remotes. All they need is a battery. I'll try one of those. Do you know how much the dealer would charge to have the remote programmed to my car?

Yes they will probably charge you. However, I don't know how much they charge for that. I'm gonna guess 1/2 of what they charge for an hour of labor in your local shop.

For the most part, isn't a factory remote just a series of "dipswitches" on the circuit board? If you're gonna replace the old one, see if there's a blue box inside with some white switches in it. They're just two position switches, up and down. If that's the case, save yourself the money and change the new remote to the old one's switch positions.

I may not know much about cars, but I know two things....
1) Breaking things is expensive, and
2) Horsepower isn't cheap.

that is for remotes for your garage door. the car one has to be reprogrammed with a TECH-II

Read your instruction manual. Doesnt it say to reprogram remotes you jsut need to hold both buttons for fives seconds or something?

Curious... Couldnt you jsut walk up to any GM car, hold both buttons, then unlock the doors?

Yea when I got mine, my range was horrible so I told the dealer about it & they said the only thing that controled it was the BCM & remotes. They put a new BCM & got 2 remotes & it bumped it up a little, but it still isn't near like my other car's range is
