I just had installed a car stereo. I have a 2004 cav. I kept the stock head unit a I have 2 amps. One for the subs and one for the rest of the speakers. My question is it was wired that when the car is not running the only way I can listen to music is to turn the key forward. Because it wasn't wired to give the amps power if you turn the key backward in the assesory position. Is this bad for the car to keep the key forward to listen to the radio? Thanks
Nope it's the same as putting it back one click except you can run a couple more accessories like power windows and HVAC.

Not bad, but not good either. There would be more than just the HVAC and pwr windows that come on...
Fuel pump, various sensors are activated as well.
Best bet, run the remote wire from your aftermarket h/u (which should be wired to come on in accessory - the key turn back) to activate both amps. Or, you can run a wire tapped off of another that is hot in accessory (ie one of the wires for the h/u) to turn on the amps. Doesn't have to be a lot of juice for the remote wire, all you're doing it triggering a relay (so to speak) to turn the things on.
If he had an aftermarket deck, it'd be easy... but he's using the stock head unit... so...
Wherever the tap is for the remote turn on... it's connected to a pink wire (which is hot with the car in RUN only). Switch it to a brown wire (which is hot in RUN and ACC) and you'll be able to run the stereo with the key turned backwards instead of on.. not just any brown wire tho

check it with a meter first.
(if it's really that important to you).
