Alright, I have not yet purchased my subs or amp, but I have decieded on what they are going to be. Now I was wondering if it is possible to build a sealed/ported box, or if it is just a waste of time and money.
The reason I ask this, is becuase I like listining to a lot of rock music, and techno, so I would like to have the best of both worlds.
I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this.
Thanks

What kind of subs and what amp (how much power) you are working with would be helpful.
Sorry I didn't get back to you guys sooner, I was on vacation, and I couldn't get to a computer.
This is what I'm planning
Subs
2 12"Kenwood KFC-W3009
Amp

Sorry bout that, accidently pressed the button....oops...
Anyway.
My amp I'm planning on running is this
Profile AP1000M
So, bridged I would be running
310 watts x 1 at 4 ohms.
So, like my previous question, is there anyway that you can make a sub enclosure that
can be sealed, then ported, and then sealed again?
Becuase, I've read that rock sounds best with a sealed box, while techno and the like sounds better in a ported box.

if you build a sub box to play accurately its going to play accurately for all music.
it can and has been done. if you head over to carsound.com there should be a few guys over there tha have it done that may help you out. but it wont be easy to do it right. you.
not to mention what your wanting would be a pain in the but to deal with. "oops switching songs, let me pull over and seal my ports and change my airspace" "oops new song, let me change it again."

The type of box you're talking about is called a double chamber reflex type box. It will basically act as a sealed box until you get down to a certain frequency. Below that it will behave like a ported box. If you don't have much box building experiance, I would definitely not suggest trying to build one on your own, but a good shop should be able to do it.
The upside is you'll have a box that will play as low as a ported box. The downside is the box is going to end up being a lot bigger, so if you don't plan on losing a bunch of space, you're best bet would be to do a well tuned ported box.

Ok. Thanks, I'll look into that, there are a couple of good shops around here that should be able to do that.
Another Question, how much bigger would the box be? We all know how cramped our trunks are. Do you have a rough idea how much larger it would be?

Well it depends on the subs. It's a two chambered box. The main chamber is going to need to be about the same size as a ported box for those woofers, with a smaller box added on for the second chamber. You can do a smaller box, but it won't be able to play as low.
