Sub problem
Sunday, June 05, 2005 5:03 PM
ok.. well... i have two 12 inch jl audio w0's pushed by a Rockford Fosgate amp. Well One channel on the amp blew so I hooked both subs up to one channel. I unhooked them to re-wire them and one of them had something wrong with it so I hooked the other one up to the one channel and left the other one unhooked. Well, I got everything installed and the sub didn't work. It was pushed out all the way and when I turned it off it sucked back in. turned it back on and it pushed out all the way. So I took it out... I got the broken sub fixed and got a new amp... hooked them up and they both did the same thing, pushed out and stayed. I don't know what the heck it's doing... The subs aren't blown.

For some reason it seems that your subs are getting direct current from the amp. Most likely the channel they are hooked to is shorted out. Looks like it's probably time for a new amp.

I hooked them up to a new amp and they still did it.

Does the amp have a switch to control its brigeable option? If so, make sure its off so its not bridged.

Are subs wired ok inside the box?

Put a multimeter on the terminals for the subs and find out what ohms it's reading then report back.

what would happen if both of the speaker leads got hooked to the same polarity leads on the amp..... both leads on a neg or both on a positive? would it do this in a simple user error? ive never dealt with anything like this im interested.
