hey guys/gals, i just bought my '94 Cavalier and i would like to get my kenwood excelon deck installed... problem is, the guy who had the car before me had a deck in it... so he asked me if i had a deck to put in it, yeah i said yes. so thats fine, he got to keep his deck but when he took the deck out, he cut off the factory harness as well... so all that is in the dash is cut wires with no harness to plug into.
should i call up the dealer and see if i can get a replacement? or should i just take it to the install bay and see if they can wire it in direct like that with no harness? i dont want to look like a total moron, i have installed decks before but i was lucky enough to have a harness to work with other than the deck's harness.
i would install it myself but the woman bought me the deck and she got extra warranty ($999.00cdn) deck when she bought it and the warranty is void if it's not installed by a certified kenwood installer. so yeah, what do you guys think my best bet would be? try the dealer for a harness that i can wire up before i take it to the audio shop or??
Thanks!

go to the wreckers find a 91-94 Cavalier, rip apart the dash, cut the original harness off then join the colors to the wires that you got now and solder them. If not just connect the new deck by connecting the cut wires to the kenwood harness.
BTW the dealer probably won't have it (too old) or they will try to sell you the entire harness, probably costly.
ok cool. so if i cannot get my hands on one, would the shop mind (or charge me extra) if they have to hook the kenwood harness into the cut wires? they might be a bit ticked off i assume..

they could get ticked off if the don't have the wiring diagrams with the colors, if may not know the aftermarket radio have a different colors to the wiring than GM, or other companies. I know you can find stereo harness for 82-94 Cavaliers on www.v6z24.com browse the audio forum. Print that off and give it to them. If not like i said go to wreckers and cut a harness of a 91-94 Cavalier that'll be the best and safest.
ok sounds good! first car i ever picked up that had the harness cut ..grr..
thanks!
