I got a new amp, just a few newbie questions

Hey! I just got this amp Alpine Amp Its the Alpine 200 watt 4 channel MRPF240. I plan on powering 2 sony 6x9s and 2 pioneer 4x6's with it.

Will a 200 watt amp wiring kit be okay? Or should I go with a higher watt kit cause of the longer wire run.

How important is the name brand of the RCA cables that connect the receiver to the amp? I can choose from $20 monster cable ones, or get no name ones for only $7. Would I be better off spending the extra money for the monster cable or should I just go the cheap route?

Is it a good idea to get a battery terminal thing to connect onto the battery and then onto the main power wire? I was planning on just connecting the wire with the O clamp thing it came with, but would a battery terminal be better?

Thanks so much for any advice you can give. Sorry its a lot of questions, but i'm new to this and I want to try and do things right the first time!

Thanks again!

Check the fuse in the package and make sure it's the same as the sum of the fuses on the amp. As long as it's at least that high, you're good to go.

I would say you'll be cool with the $7 RCAs, as long as they're twisted pair. Also twist the two around each other when you're running it to help cut out and intereference you might pick up.

Getting a post adaptor is a very good idea. On the GM battery terminals, there's little "teeth" that fit into the battery to make a good connection. If you just pop a ring terminaly on there it's not going to line up right anymore and you won't get as good of a connection. The power adaptors have like a little screw with a nut sticking out the back, so you just undo the nut, slide your ring on there, and tighten the nut back up.

If you can find an electrical store around you try to get #6 Welding Wire. its black and blends in with carpet.. works very well

That Battery Terminal is a great idea due to when u need to disconnect the amp the radio stays correct ( time is still right)

Audiobahn makes them but cost to high about $14

AudioPipe is what I use and the run around 5.95 part # BT400 (if you have side mounts).

if you have top mounts the part # BT100P

Good Luck

Go to Wal-Mart and pick up a Scosche amplifier wiring kit. Less than 30 bucks, and it will have everything you need, including rca's.

Now, I know somebody just went, "Dude, Wal-Mart sucks".

Well, Scosche doesn't, so, kiss it. Get the biggest wiring kit they sell. Someday you might upgrade your system, add an amp, whatever. Always think about the future. For the extra five bucks, you can't go wrong.

Wire isn't wire....

certain wires pass more tests.. last longer, and are more duarable...

if you want to take a chance of a fre. etc etc.. get cheap wire....

not saying it will happen but there always that chance with @!#$ wire.. as well as less sound quality because the wires are twisted as tightly as performance wires...

I have to agree with peps. You buy cheap wires and you will get cheap sound. wire isn't just wire. You have to put into account the conductivity of the wire. Also, the RCAs give you the sound you are going to be hearing. I say hey if you want to go cheap go right ahead it is your SQ.

I bought a cheap 4 gauge wiring kit online. I've seen 4 gauge wire before and that kit does not have 4 gauge wire. I got proof of that trying to use 4 gauge ring terminals. However, as long as you are not approaching the maximum amperage capacity of the wire, it will not matter. It's ok to go cheap on the rca's as long as you run the wires correctly. Most important is making a good ground connection. If you plan on adding subs in the future, I would get use 4 gauge cable or bigger.

a pair of 200 dollar rca's isn't going to make your system sound any better then a pair of 20 dollar rca's.

I make my own..costs me a few bucks and are just as good

Thanks for all the advice! I ended up going with the $20 rcas, it sounds great! I figured spending the little extra money is worth not taking a risk and degrading the sound quality. What are the proper ways to run the rca cable back to the trunk? I've never read anything about how to properly run them. Mayble i'll do a search for it right now....
