I just got a new amp and it has a black wire with a little tap that reads "signal ground". Then next to the power hook up is and chasis ground. Whats the differance? I know the chassis ground should be conneceted to bare metal no more then three feet from the amp, but were do I hook up the signal ground?
I KNOW "NO MEENS NO", BUT BAAA BAAA, COULD MEEN ANYTHING!
Im gonna take a stab @ it and say it's supposed to be hooked up to the little wire that is connected to certain brands of RCA cables...
Alot of people use that wire as a remote, but I believe that its true purpose. One end gets grounded to the deck- and the other end to the amp...
Don't you have the owners manual for the amp?

Yes I have the owners manual for the amp. It doesn't show how that wire is suppos to be hooked up. The signal ground wire is only a foot long.
How do you ground a wire to the deck? Do you meen use te same ground the deck is using?

yeah that is the ground for the RCA cables, some cables have a grounding wire on each end, ground one end to your HU and the other to the amp. If your RCA cables dont have it dont worry about it.
Don't worry about it? You meen don't hook the signal ground to any thing? And it should be fine?
I KNOW "NO MEENS NO", BUT BAAA BAAA, COULD MEEN ANYTHING!
Yes.
The signal ground is jsut that... a ground for your signal... Soem RCA cables have addition grounds on them to reduce noice in the cables. If your RCA cables dont have it, you dont need it.

That is correct sir. Chassis grounds are indeed needed, however signal grounds are not unless you get the type of RCA that uses them
