Steering wheels control interface. Google it and you should get a few.

Example:

Hope this helps.

the sterering wheel control interfaces are not fun. They take a while to get right and sometimes dont work at all. I've done 4 and gotten 2 to work

If it's the 98, then you're looking at a 1.5 din opening.

Well to answer your questions the cavalier/sunfire comes with a 1.5 DIN. So if you wanted to fit a double din you would have to do some shaving.

Basing it off of the model number you are looking at I guess you want a navigation unit for her car. If you really like Pioneer then I would say look at the AVEC-N2 or N1 that is what I have in my car and it works great. Plus it is only DIN and leaves you a half DIN to do what you want with like say a center speaker or what ever you so choose.

On a side note though even though I like my N2 it does stick out a little bit and is a tight squeeze in the back. I have heard that the Kenwood KNA-DV4100 is a better fit. You can either hook that up to a touchscreen Kenwood monitor or just use the Kenwood KNA-RC300 remote on any monitor you wish.

I wish you luck with your purchase and install. I love having a GPS in the car and don't think I could ever go back .
