Hello. Finally had time to install my new toys. This is my first attempt at car audio installation. Please let me know what you think.
Amp: Infinity Reference 7520a
Speakers: Infinity Kappa 60.5cs
Wiring Kit: Streetwires 8 Guage
I first installed the amp. Running the wires were a snap. The sunfires have a huge rubber grommet to run the power wire through. Once I ran it through that, I just tucked it under the panels along the bottom of the door and back to the truck. The RCA's i basically did the same thing with. You can't see any of the wires.
I decided to mount the amp on the back of the back seat. I think it looks good, doesn't take much trunk space and has space to breath. It is not exacly straight since I just through it in quick today , plan on straightening it out once I have time.
I next used 14 guage speaker wire and ran it from the amp, back the same way I ran the power and rca cables and up to the doors. It was kind of a pain getting it into the doors, but after a while I got it. I connected the wires to the crossover in the door, and tried several location on where to mount the crossovers. I ended up mounting them in the door along the bottom. Other locations has problems of getting hit when I rolled the window down.
I used the sticky at the top for an idea about speaker mounts for the doors. I picked up a scrap piece of 5/8th particle board. It ended up not being thick enough, so I place 1/4 inch scrap pieces of wood on the back of each side for that little extra space it needed. I really didnt care what it looked like since it was going in the door and wouldn't be seen.
I then hooked up the speaker and mounted it in the door. The window crank still clears the speakers.
I put the door panel back on, and realized it was a tight fit. It fits on, but the speaker is right up against the carpet, and there is a small gap at the bottom. I need to figure out what to do about this problem. I decided I can either
a. try to either sand or use a different piece of wood on the back of the mount to reduce the depth some
b. but a space for the speaker out of the carpet in the door and use the grill that came with the speaker
c. buy some kickpanels for the speaker
Also, I did not have time to hook the tweeter up. I think I am going to mount them near the door handle.
And these were the speakers that were in the car when I bought it. I might go back and hide the wires to make them look cleaner. They are just running of the deck.
I have finals to take tomarrow and wednesday, so hopefully thursday I can get my tweeters installed and have time to tune it in. Thanks for looking and let me know what you think so far.

sweet, where u puttin the tweeters?
the only bad thing i see is where you mounted your crossovers...not a good idea to put them actually inside the door...water gets down in there.

Yeah move your crossovers to the door panel. Just velcro them to the door panels.

Aight, I said screw studying and decided to put my tweeters in today. I was having a problem with my speakers cutting out, but once I put the tweeters in that went away.
I was originally going to put them on the door, but after looking around today I decided to put them on my dash right under the A-Pillar. For now I decided to surface mount them since it was the easiest way to get them hooked up, Putting them in this location gave them a pretty good angle for my sound imaging.
I think they look very nice, almost stock in person.
Now, when I first turned my radio on I was AMAZED at the sound coming out of the tweeters. I had the volume at 12 and could not even sit in the car. These things scream! I set everything back to flat, and began fine tuning it. After a little while I got to a point where I am relatively happy for now. I cannot believe how awesome these speakers and tweeters are. The highs are amazing. They are so clear. These gets so loud, I have them at about 14 for volume. I cant imagine sitting it the car with it any louder. The midbass from these is pretty nice. I have to do some fine tuning on my amp and then go back to my HU and make some more adjustments. Also, the crossover have two settings (flat and contour). I have to mess around with those and see what I can get. Overall, I am very satisfied with these speakers. Some songs sound perfect, and some sound great with the mids and highs, but definatly lack bass. I have my rears running off the deck, so literally all my sound is upfront. I am hearing sounds from songs that I didn't even know were there.
I plan on buying some sub(s) this summer for it. I may also put some sound deadening in the doors. And another thing, for as loud as I have the music in the car, you cant really hear much outside the car, which is great. Sound deadening will only help this. Basically my only problem now is figuring out what to do with my door panels to make them fir snuggly over the speakers. I think I am either going to cut out a hole and mount the grills over then, or maybe try to shave down the wood on my mounts. Maybe at some point in the future get kickpanels... who knows. Feel free to leave any feedback/comments. I greatly appreciate it.

Aight. I have a problem with my door panel fitting on now. I am currently at school, so next week when I am home I am going to try to trim my speaker mounts down as small as possible to see if that helps. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions to fix this fitment problem? I thought maybe i could cut out the carpet and just mount the grill, but the way my doors are on the panel only part of the speaker is behind the carpet, the rest is behind the rest of the panel. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

maybe try using a tad smaller piece of wood. or sand down theone u have, or if u have a router, route a shallow recess in the wood for the speaker to fit into, you could try cutting the plastic on the door panel itself since you have the stock speaker grill that goes over the door panel piece anyway (i cut most of mine out just to keep it from blocking the sound, as long as you leave enought that the outer speaker cover can stil screw in u may buy a small amount of space.

hey man just wondering what u hooked up ur tweeters to ? ur amp or ur stock ? cause i got a 4 channel amp and all my channels are taken so im left with using my deck unless u got a better idea
was wondering if you ran your power wires and your rca/speaker wires through the same path???thats what you kinda made it sound like
and if you did it could eventually cause some interference or static may not but i have always read and been taught not to run them in the same path
someone correct me if i am wrong but if you get a chance later on down the road i would change it around, especcially if you wanna get into doing some competitions or something....
mmmm sexy. I miss my Infinity Amp(Back when they made them years ago). Let me know how you like the new one. My buddy was running the newer ones for a while but never really pushed them as it was a show car not for sound.
And you should love those speakers..
i was about to say that about the power on the same side. other than that good job, nice and clean. allways wanted tweets
what about putting the tweeters towards the top of the A-pillar instead of the bottom?
