Speaker upgrades and potentially a HU, what to get

So being that I like Pioneer as one of the brands for car audio equipment and I'm still new to this arena in audio I'd like some suggestions. My stock speakers need replaced soon (starting to crackle some...) so I was checking out ebay and for $30 (after s/h charges) found a pair of Pioneer 4x6 G464OR 2-way's to put in my front doors. They push 100 Watt's and figuring since they are Pioneers they should sound pretty decent.

What kind of 6x9's should I get? The music I listen to is a mixture of rap/metal/country/top40 so I need to cover the full spectrum of music as far as that is concerned. I'm also thinking about replacing my head unit. It's an older Aiwa (been in since '99 I think) CD/CDRW/MP3 AM/FM head unit and it just recently stopped being able to read MP3 discs now so I'm tempted to replace it. Any particular Head Unit's I should check in to for a replacement?

I'd also eventually like the ability to upgrade and put an amp/subwoofer in the car but that won't be in the immediate future. Right now I just want to upgrade the stock speakers and possibly replace the head unit. Thanks all.

Car is a '97 Cavalier 2-Door Coupe (Base model) if that matters or helps at all.

get a 125 dollar mp3/wma CD-R/RW JVC or pioneer from the car domain store. And those speakers...i have the same in mine. a gift from a freind. They sound GREAT! but be sure they have the little bracket with them too, so make SURE you get those or installing is near impossible. Hope i helped!

Thanks, Greg. I don't need anything that can be heard blocks away, I just want a clear sound with decent bass to it to enjoy music. I appreciate the advice and I'm glad it sounds like I picked out the right speakers for the front (I knew I needed 4x6's at least). I'll look into Car Domain's website and see what they got for HU's. Thanks again.
