Hey everyone. Im getting a 12 W7 and a 1000/1 amp in a few days, but I want to do something special with the enclosure. So my first question is how would the sub sound closed off from the trunk and facing into the car or would it sound better in the trunk firing towards the trunk. Also, I need a box and I am considering "slot" porting the box at 32 Hz and the box needs to be 1.75 cu. ft. from what I gather from the following chart....
Enclosure Recommendations:
Sealed Range: 1.25 - 1.625 cu. ft. (35.4 - 46.02 ltrs.)
Recommended Sealed Volume: 1.375 cu. ft. (38.94 ltrs.)
Fc: 44.7 Hz
F3: 40.4 Hz
Qtc: 0.792
Ported Range: 1.5 - 2.25 cu. ft. (42.5 - 63.7 ltrs.)
Recommended Ported Volume: 1.75 cu. ft. (49.56 ltrs)
Recommended Tuning: 32 Hz
Port Type: “Slot” ports are recommended.
But all of this box stuff means nothing to me, is there anyway to get some dimensions as to how big this box should be to fit in our trunks.
I appolgize for having to ask what im sure is a dumb question, but I havent had a sub that was this reliant on a quality box as the other subs I have owned just have been cheap and in a prefab box. but I want to show this baby off at some shows this year, and so I want to make sure that it looks good and sounds up to spec.
Thanks to everyone in advance I hope I can get some help. if you need to explain something or wouldnt mind talking to me about it so I can get it. Hit me up at CustomCaviZ24 on AIM or Karnage_313 on Yahoo IM.
Also, this is JLs box for a ported w7.. for reference.

Also, if Sealed would sound better, I would be able to do that, so the same question applies for sealed boxes also what are some advantages of Ported and Sealed, Im sure I dont want a BP with it but ill do the others

you only need a 500/1, you can you a 1000/1, but you won't NEED it. I went to JL AUDIO 2 weeks ago, and took the "School of Sound" and unless you bought it already only get a 500/1, your alternator will thank you for it.
ALSO CALL JL AUDIO, they will be HAPPY to give you specs for YOUR CAR, just give them dimensions on how much room your working with. Ask for Ron, or Hector.
Trust me on this.
well, im getting the sub and the amp for 600, because this guy I know has 2 of each and is selling the whole thing for 1200, including some wires and a cap and all that, but no box, he has a custom fiberglass enclosure for his eclipse, so I am getting them both for 600 so ill take the 1000/1, but ill give them a call and see if they can give me some specs, but I dont know if they can tell me how to make the box I want ported, but they wont just sell the enclosure at the local shop that carries JL they want 965.00 for the driver and box, so that does me no good but id like that box ( HO112-W7 )

your best advice is as above to call JL more people should do this. most tech guys will help you get the best box for your car. sealed or ported will both sound good and play accurately if its built wrong. if your not great at building boxes i say go sealed because you can make a sealed box a bit to big or to small and it will still sound good. a ported can be a bit louder but if you dont get the box and port right, its not going to sound good

I have a 10'' w7 and it seems under watted any of u audio guys have any ways I can set the amp better to make it louader or settign on my in dash radio get the most out of my sub and make it perform liek the w7 should?
Build the ported or sealed box JL lists here:
12w7 Info Then make some covers out of MDF to fit behind the back seat area and cover up the back of the box in the trunk. You could make the one it the trunk your amp rack...
09 HHR LS, Wife's Car
05 Cavalier, Clarion DXZ375MP, Autotek MM8000.5 & 13Kv.2, wife's old car, updates coming soon
that jl box sounds really nice in my friends xterra...
Is your box built and tuned to spec? makes a world of difference. Also SET you amp (if it is a JL amp) the EXACT way it shows in the manual. JL knows what's up on makin good manuals.
Well I got the box ready to build but I dont know if I should face the subs into the cabin and seal it off, of face the subs towards the cabin but put a 1" sheet of plexiglass so its still firing into the trunk, or if I should just fire it back into the back of the trunk like a stardard setup, if anyone could help out with the benifits and drawbacks of them I would appriciate it. Its gonna be a box build to spec and ported at 32 hz. Then over the box will be a coverplate of 1/2" MDF and make it look like the whole trunk is a box and also one in the other side that will have the amps mounted. so the whole area between the boxes will be sealed including the box. Any advice would be appriciated
