I need some help making a sig in GIMP. I think I know what to do, but I don't know how to go about it.

basically, I have a pic of my car. I want to basically overlay my screen name over it, so it looks like my screen name is being "forced through" from the back side in whatever font.

I don't know if I explained it well enough. LOL and no, it's not this sig.

i dont really know anything about gimp but cant be too much different than photoshop. this link my help youout
GIMP TUTORIALS

You need to put in a layer with your name on it, set the opacity of the text to 0% then add a border around the text, outset or inset should do it. Play around with it till you like it. I know this isn't very descriptive but it should give you a place to start.

hey, not bad for first time, you will get better trust me. just take practice

the major problem was that the pic was taken at night. I tried to lighten it up a bit, but it started to wash out. I'm going to mess with it some more tonight to see what I can do.

ive tried gimp for a few things, but i just suck at this sort of thing, so i didnt do too well.

gimp is a decent program but it really just falls short in the text department. sorry but that is where photoshop is way better.

Did you actually use "brightness" go and mess with "Levels" it changes the black and white levels and I've found it to be much better than messing with the brightness and contrast.

who'd be up for helping me out with the sig that I want? I don't have Photoshop.
