Anybody converted 98 Sunfire 2dr Coupe 3rd gen J body to convertible.?
Is it doable?
What mods are needed?
The cost to do something like this would be insanely high. Would it not be much cheaper to sell your current j and buy a vert?
Buying a vert is the only safe way to do it.

The car's structure needs to be reinforced. The factory convertibles have frame bracing added underneath because in the coupe and sedan rely on the roof as part of the structural integrity of the body.
This is not something you would do by yourself if you don't know what you're doing, and as said, it would be very expensive to have it done. Far more than it would be to find a vert and buy it.
Convertible J's go for around $2k around my area. There is no way you would be able to find or fabricate all the material needed for that cheap.
Here's a less crazy idea, do the opposite. take a vert and add a chopped off roof from a coupe. you would end up with a pretty stiff frame because the vert has the added bracing right? add some tower braces and you would be even better. If you have a vert with a bad roof a bolt on hardtop would be cool.
