I've looked around and found some differences, but I have a problem still. I've seen that the 96 2.4L uses a different timing chain set then the 97-99 model years. Before I teardown the replacement engine to rebuild, I can I tell what year the engine is so I can order parts ahead of time and not have engine torn apart on bench longer?
Different block casting number? Visual differences?
Thanks for any info.
there should be if it hasn't fallen off over the years be a broadcast number on the timing cover
this pic will show you what it looks like but not the code you need. it should be the same code on your RPO sticker
why not go to the dealer with the vin from your car and order the kit for that engine and car

I'm going to work off a 98 engine and see how it goes. It has EGR, but I can Just block that with the manifold from my car.
If I find a difference/problem, I'll post back.
Missed an above post. I'll check the size of the knock sensor hole on monday.
