Fuel Gauge HELP
Saturday, May 01, 2010 5:16 PM
I posted this in the Interior section several days ago and haven't gotten any information on this so I'm trying here. Here goes: Ok, here's the deal. I have a '99 Cav with a '95 fuel tank and fuel pump/sending unit. The EVAP system is no more. And, obviously the fuel gauge does not work correctly. My question is, is it possible to get a cluster from a '95 and swap JUST the fuel gauge so as that the gauge matches the ohms or whatever it is that is different so that I will have a working fuel gauge again and still be able to keep the digi. odo., and the original cluster? Thank you for any help on this.

You need to get a fuel pump assembly that is for you're 99. 95 pump is different. The 95 Cav fuel tank has no fuel tank pressure sensor either and the clusters are wired slightly different. The evap system is not going to effect you're fuel gauge.

I already have a '95 tank and pump in the car driving daily. I'm going by milage right now. The fuel gauge doesn't work. What I want to know is if JUST the guage from a '95 can be installed in my '99 cluster and work or not. The EVAP system was "bypassed". All that did was throw the check engine light which I just ignore.

No. The 95 pump assembly will not work you're fuel gauge in you're 99. You can only use a 95 cluster in a 95. Have you scanned the car to see what codes its throwing? You'll definately have some evap codes if that hasn't been deleted from the pcm. 96 and up computer systems are different then 95 and below.

It may be able to be swapped over. HOWEVER, once you do that the car will no longer start because of the anti-theft stuff being absent from the 95's. But I guess then it wouldn't matter what your fuel gauge says.
