Recently, my cav keeps blowing the passenger rear turn signal bulb. A new bulb lasts a day, then blows again. What is causing this?
Does the glass blow up, or does it just burn the filament out?

Are you sure it's actually blowing the bulb? Sounds silly, but the first time or two I thought mine was doing this... but then I realized it was just coming out of the clip just a little bit, if I were to push it back in it worked again.. Sometimes it falls completely out & into the turn signal housing.. Quite annoying.. I bought a new clip to solder in there when I feel motivated.
The thin wires that contact the socket, near the clip, is usually melted into the plastic
both of my rear signals don't work, the replacement bulbs lasted less than a week.
i assume i can go to a canadian tire store and buy the wires to replace the ones i have?
Are you using bulb grease? Sounds bit silly but I was replacing rear signal bulbs left and right and not using grease. After about 5 bulbs I could no longer get a good connection and had to replace the bulb sockets on both sides. They are a dealer part and fairly cheap. Good luck
bulb grease? i saw a bunch of grease (I think it was green) but, uhhh, i tried to clean it out as best I could, lol...so i should buy some bulb grease and wires? do the wires come with the sockets, or would i buy the sockets separately first just in case it's those that are the issue?
thanks!
Bulb grease is your friend...mine would actually melt the plastic around the metal bulb connector making it useless.... When you by bulbs from autozone or where ever they usually have lil indivial packs of bulb grease for like a dollar.

Yes, grease is your friend. You shouldn't need the wires. Just the sockets.
thanks, i'll look for them and give it a try..
I have never once used bulb grease, let alone have the socket melt on me due to not doing so...
I think the contacts arent making a good connection and it keeps arcing. Causing the burnt spots and melted plastic.
Try bending those contacts on the bulb out a little, It will get a better connection and maybe stop the problem.
I simply removed the bulb and reinserted it, and now it works fine.. so I guess the problem is coming from the socket.
I had the same issue on my car. I went threw 2 bulbs and then replaced socket without grease. So far all is good.
i have put it off, but will get the sockets this week..i actually bought 2 red flares in case i breakdown (no hazards).
is the socket the part where the bulb attaches? is it just that plastic part, or the whole wire as well?
or is the socket something else?
heading to Canadian Tire to pick it up, i just want to make sure i get the right part.
Thanks!!
Socket is where bulb attaches. There is a plug that connects to the socket unplug at socket. Plug in new socket put in new bulb. Trist sockit back into the back of linse. Test all should be good. Good luck.
'Trist sockit back into the back of linse.'
Not sure what this means.

Ty John was not fully awake when I wrote that.
i had this problem on both of my rear turn signals/brake lights...took it to the shop for something and they always replaced my bulbs cuz they said they were out(checked stuff out while the car was there), and then a few days later i would leave my house and my dad said as i was leaving my house my brake lights were out....looked at it myself and just had a bunch of corrosion in the sockets...replaced and now all is well. always look into your connections...gotta be good for the circuit to complete properly
I've already solved this by swapping the socket out with one I got from the wreckers. Works fine, no problems since
