I have a 97 cav 2.2 3spd auto tran. Engine blew, so i put a 99 2.2 w/4spd auto trans in it. did a full swap, Engine, engine harness, transmission, shifter cable (ends were different on tranny side),and pcm.
Before i swaped pcms, i started the car and it started great and idled fine, then, I shifted from P-R-N, everything was great. When i put it in D, it just died. It start fine after that but, the same thing happened again when i put it in D.
I swaped the pcms thinking that was the problem. Now it started but, as soon as it came to idle after initial start, it just died completely.
I swaped the pcm back to the 97 and i'm back square one. Do i need to have the 97 pcm reflashed? or am i forgetting to pull something else over with the swap?
The 99 started, shifted, and moved perfectly fine before i removed them. note that it was smashed on the front driver side to the point that the battery was crushed about 1/8 of its diameter from front to back. I changed it before starting the car.
I would appreciate all and any opinions on this matter. thanks in advance.
I didnt try this yet ,Ill give it a shot and see what happens. would that matter if i have the original pcm back in the car?
Do the passlock relearn on the 99 pcm and you'll be golden.
Your car may do 13 sec @ 103 mph, but my car does 146db @ 35 hz.
Pulled the pcm and put the one from the 99 in then, I tried the passlock relearn and, It worked. Thanks for the help. Without your help, i would still be here scratching my head. Idles, shifts, and drives great. Thanks again, this is an awesome site. Ihope i can contribute some info to others that are also looking for help with the j-body.
Glad you got it working!
Sometimes it's easy stuff... it's the really hard questions we have problems diagnosing over the internet...
