Hey got a couple questions, I got a 97 Z24 with a blown motor. I can very easily get my hands on a 4 door 96 2.2l model. I'm wondering if anyone has every swapped a 2.2 into a z2?. I know I'm gonna need these exhaust , ecu, and maybe the cluster too...
someone here has done a few years back. but why would you want to downsize. getting your hands on something isnt always the best.
Just because the 2.4l is hard to find. I've been looking and can't find one for less than $500!
If you do that the car gods will strike you down!
you have been warned..
Don't tell me that! I think the 2.2 is a better motor , from what i've heard the 2.4's blow up for days. And for performance reasons... what is the 2.2 like 120hp? and the 2.4 like 150...lol. come on, neither of these engines make any real power.. I'm just looking for something to drive. I got a neon for power! = )

at the crank, yes. but after going through the tranny and getting to the wheels, you're looking at about 95 brake hp from the 2.2l... it's slower than @!#$ rolling uphill. trust me, i had one. you're better off going with a 2.4l.
you say you have a neon, so having a little bit of downtime on the cav while you find a suitable motor shouldn't be a problem.
yeah the 2.2 is gonna put out about 90 HP to the wheels, while the 2.4 puts out nearly 130-140
ive had just as many problems with my 2.2 (if not more) than my 2.4... (if we don't count my current motor build issues... but im putting down 12:1 compression N/A from my 2.4 now --- 250 ish WHP N/A motors are bound to have a few bugs at assembly)
it would be a lot cheaper for you to part out the 2.4 car and buy a car with a 2.2, than spend the money trying to swap that in...
The only problem I'm having with my 2.4 is the crappy manual transmission. The engine runs fine and can take a beating without complaining (just keep an eye on your oil). If I had to ques, Im probably only putting out about 190 something HP at the crank though so its not like its really hopped up and its still "stock like" stable.
LMAO. 90 Hp
so THATS why my girlfriend sunfire doesn't move!
